My Turn: In agreement

Jeremy Williams’ letter of Jan. 21 says so clearly and well what I believe to be true. When some of my well-meaning friends say that all the politicians in D.C. are the same, and only care about getting elected and making money, I vociferously disagree.

There is a great difference between almost all the Democrats and the Republicans. The GOP has become the party of no agenda — only to stay in power or gain it at any cost, and to do the bidding of rich supporters who bankroll their campaigns.

But even worse is their actions and inaction regarding legislation which would benefit the vast majority of Americans — all included in Biden’s Build Back Better bill, voting rights, etc. —  this confirms their utter hypocrisy about when money should be spent and on whom.

Beneath all this, as Mr. Williams points out, is their complete lack of compassion for those in need of assistance from their government. And it is astounding that not one Republican senator ( nor two pseudo Dems) will vote for what’s needed to protect elections from the crooked officials who conspire to rig them so results they don’t like will be reversed in their favor.

And let’s not forget that only two GOP representatives sit on the Jan. 6 investigation which is compiling a mountain of evidence about the traitors who sought to keep Trump in office by any means possible. Those two are pariahs within their party for wanting the truth to be found and told, so steps can be taken to ensure it never happens again.

Yes there are no hearts beating in those cold, calculating breasts. And while the Tin Man was able to get one from the Wizard of Oz, it’s clear there’s no way for these unfeeling, uncaring inhumans to do so.

But there are things we can do. I echo Mr. Williams saying ” Be good, do good” And as Martin Luther King and his successors taught us, fight oppression and evil non-violently, but fight. Otherwise we are complicit.
