An Orange man has been arrested on a manslaughter charge in connection with a fatal car crash Sunday.

Jay Pressley, 28, was arrested Thursday on manslaughter and related charges in connection with the nighttime single-car crash on South Athol Road in Athol that claimed the life of Eric R. Gage, 26, of Athol, one of three occupants of the car.

Pressley is expected to be arraigned Friday morning in Orange District Court, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office spokesperson, who did not elaborate on what the other charges might be.

One person died and two others were sent to the hospital with serious injuries after a Nissan Altima flipped onto its roof after crashing into a tree on a straightaway near 1060 South Athol Road. One person was ejected from the car. Police responded to the scene around 8:40 p.m. and stayed well into the early hours of the morning.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police, but local police said speeding may have been an issue given the car was demolished.
