What happens after shootings

Tuesday, October 10, 2017

When I was born, it was over 10 years since my dad survived a mass shooting in his native country of Hungary. In those days it was Nazis, not terrorists or lone gunmen.

However, I soon realized he was a deeply wounded person. Most nights he would scream in his sleep. Things made him irrationally angry that reminded him of what he had experienced. Eventually, he began to drink to get rid of the pictures in his head that would not go away. He was outwardly “normal,” but did not live long; it simply became too hard.

This is what happens after the headlines are over. When will this insanity cease.
