As Mayor Roxann Wedegartner’s campaign treasurer, I must track donor details as part of the required state reporting process. What I see is that the mayor is supported by community leaders who understand the intricacies of running a $60 million operation.

They recognize that she and her team guided us through a pandemic and made Greenfield a leading vaccination site for over 17,000 Massachusetts residents. They see the strong working relationships she has forged with local, regional and state political leaders, including Gov. Maura Healey and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll, who both endorse Mayor Wedegartner and want progress to continue in Greenfield.

Mayor Wedegartner is supported by business leaders who share her clear vision for bringing high-paying, sustainable jobs to Greenfield, as well as the businesses that support families living and working in the city (and want to keep their shopping dollars local!).

The mayor’s opponent and her followers would have you believe that business owners’ support is somehow nefarious and less valuable than that of “average citizens.” Many of our local businesses are owned and run by our neighbors and they employ our neighbors. But whether they live in Greenfield or not, they are rightly concerned that Greenfield be governed responsibly and ethically. They understand the mayor cannot naively take funds from one line to cover another without serious ramifications, both immediate and in the future. They appreciate her not voting against, but supporting them in growing their businesses, as they work to grow Greenfield.

Mayor Wedegartner cultivates relationships across the spectrum, with authenticity, with credibility, and with immense caring. To insinuate she doesn’t care for our entire community is misguided and smacks of desperation.

Join me in voting for strong, consistent, well-informed, “get stuff done” leadership for Greenfield’s future. Join me in voting for Roxann Wedegartner on Nov. 7.
