Brava to Climate Chief Melissa Hoffer, for telling Massachusetts to put its money where its mouth is on climate in a new report [“Climate chief offers call for change,” Recorder, Oct. 30]. Not so much, sadly, to Governor Maura Healey, for sitting on the report since July. Among Hoffer’s other excellent suggestions, we trust that her focus on aviation emissions will resonate with Gov. Healey. Specifically, Healey must prevent the expansion of Hanscom Airport to accommodate more private jets. Private jets are the worst carbon emitters for per-person travel, and they privilege the ultra-wealthy over the rest of us. Healey could lean on Hoffer’s report in telling Massport: no way.
