WENDELL — Local author Cathy Stanton will give a talk based on her recent book, “A Quabbin Farm Album,” in the Wendell Free Library this Thursday, Nov. 16, starting at 7 p.m.

“Stanton’s work challenges the common story that farming declined or even disappeared in New England’s hill towns because of poor soil and bad management,” a statement about the event says.

Stanton, a longtime Franklin County resident, teaches anthropology at Tufts University and has written widely about history and present-day life.

“‘A Quabbin Farm Album’ tells a more complicated story of continual adaption and reinvention as the region’s economy became more oriented toward manufacturing in the 19th and 20th centuries and then struggled to recover from the still-ongoing loss of industry,” the statement reads.

The book, published by Haley’s in Athol, features images by Northampton photographer Oliver Scott Snure. Snure’s work will be featured in a future gallery showing at the library.

Wendell Free Library is at 7 Wendell Depot Road. For more information on Stanton’s book, visit www.quabbinfarmalbum.com.
