Voices of Audubon, week of Dec. 18

Here are this week’s bird sightings from the Voices of Audubon for western Massachusetts.

A red-headed woodpecker continues to be reported at Arcadia Sanctuary in Northampton.

A barnacle goose, cackling goose and white-fronted goose, as well as a Barrow’s goldeneye, were on the Connecticut River in Longmeadow.

A white-fronted goose was seen in Sheffield and a cackling goose was found in Northampton. A Lapland longspur and a clay-colored sparrow are still being reported in Northampton.

Red-crossbills were seen in Savoy and 10 snow geese were on Onota Lake in Pittsfield and a snowy owl was found in Ware, while three sandhill cranes were reported in Cummington.

Two lesser scaup and a long-tailed duck were seen at the southern end of the Quabbin Reservoir. Four coot continue to be reported in Richmond, and a ruddy duck was found in Stockbridge.

Two lesser scaup, a Barrow’s goldeneye and a lesser black-backed gull were seen at Turners Falls. A red-throated loon was reported in Tolland and a brant continues to be seen on Silver Lake in Pittsfield.
