After getting knocked out of the WMass Div. 8 playoffs a week ago in a disappointing five-turnover effort against Hoosac Valley, the Turners Falls High School football team took out some frustration Thursday night.

Led by a 29-carry, 316-yard performance on the ground by senior tailback Wyatt Keith that vaulted him into an exclusive club, the Thunder got back into the win column in convincing fashion with a dominant 56-6 thumping of host Mount Greylock in an independent contest in Williamstown.

“We tried to do a couple fun things in practice to reenergize the kids and they came out and responded,” said Turners coach Chris Lapointe. “The kids played hard. They want to have success the last couple of weeks.”

Keith’s big night made him just the second Franklin County player ever to reach the 2,000-yard mark in a season. He joins fellow Turners Falls star Ryan Wilder, who accomplished the feat in 2012 with 2,007 yards.

“He’s worked really hard,” Lapointe said of Keith, who scored three touchdowns and now sits at 2,009 yards for the year. “He runs hard, does the things he has to do to get better. I don’t think anybody really expects to have that many yards, so any time you can even come close to (2,000 yards) that’s really special.”

Turners (8-2) stormed out to a 35-0 lead at halftime and never looked back. Keith scored a 5-yard touchdown on the first Turners’ drive. Quarterback Kyle Dodge was 7-for-9 for 103 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Tyler Lavin, who was 8-for-8 on extra points, and Jon Fritz for scores. Reilan Castine, Anthony Peterson and Brian Killay all recorded rushing TDs, while Andy Craver added a 40-yard reception.

Next up for the Powertown is a week off before the annual Thanksgiving Day contest with rival Greenfield.
