There will be time for questions following both sessions.  A free soup lunch will be available on Jan. 23.  Call 773-3646 to register or contact jtrosin@ymcaingreenfield.org for more information.

Girls Day Out: On Jan 27 from noon to 3 p.m. the YMCA will host its 13th “Girls Day Out.” This is a special afternoon for mothers, daughters and grandmothers to try a variety of Y activities, watch demos, and check out over 20 local vendors.  Save the date for this event that attracts hundreds of “girls.”  Those interested in being a vendor should contact Jayne Trosin at 773-3646 ext. 448.

Path to Wellness/Weight Loss: The YMCA has created a new eight-week program called Path to Wellness/Weight Loss. The program consists of three parts; nutrition, exercise and accountability.  The program starts with a consultation with a fitness specialist who helps set realistic goals.  There will be weekly nutrition presentations, support group meetings, special class workouts, and weigh-ins.  The program begins Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. The fee includes use of the Y’s Nautilus Center and lots of staff support. Fees are $125 for Y members and $199 for non-members.  For more info contact Jayne Trosin at 773-3646 ext. 448 or jtrosin@ymcaingreenfield.org.

Preschool and Childcare Slots: The YMCA has a few mid-year openings in its full day preschool, before school care and after school care programs.  Preschool is for 2.9 through 5 year olds, and before/after school is for kindergarten through seventh graders from Greenfield, Gill and Turners schools.  Both programs are open on snow days and operate 50 weeks per year.  Physical fitness is an important component of each program.  For a preschool tour call Lisa at 773-3646 ext. 431 and for childcare info call Kara at ext. 452.

Parent/Child Classes: Parent/child or grandparent/grandchild gym or swim classes are a great way for children ages one through five to develop gross motor skills and get some exercise.  The classes are also a good way for adults to meet others with young children.  Gym classes are offered on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., Thursdays at 10 a.m. and Fridays at 6 p.m. Swim classes offered on Thursdays at 11 a.m., Fridays at 5:45 p.m. and Saturdays at noon.  For more details, see pages 13 and 14 of “Brochure” at ymcaingreenfield.org.  Financial aid is available for all classes.

LiveStrong  at the YMCA: This free 12-week cancer survivor program helps survivors meet or exceed the recommended amount of physical activity by including cardiovascular conditioning, strength training, balance and flexibility exercises.  Participants significantly increase their cardiovascular endurance, improve their overall quality of life, and decrease their cancer-related fatigue. Program starts Jan. 22 and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 3 p.m. This free program is offered in partnership with the Baystate Franklin Medical Center Oncology Department.  Contact Jayne Trosin at jtrosin@ymcaingreenfield.org or 413-773-3646 ext. 448 for more information.
