Soccer Roundup: Athol girls remain unbeaten in Bi-County League with win over Greenfield

Three different players found the back of the net for the Athol girls soccer team on Monday, lifting the Bears to a 3-1 victory over host Greenfield in a Bi-County League contest.

Athol (11-1-1) stayed unbeaten in league play at 9-0-1.

The Bears led 2-0 at halftime thanks to goals from Skyla Williams and Kylah Blundon, and Hannah Cardoso tacked on some insurance in the second half to go with an assist.

Greenfield’s goal was scored by Mia Snedeker, and Green Wave keeper Annie Cobileanschi made nine saves.

Gateway 2, Pioneer 1 — Natalie Rios tallied in the second half for the Panthers, though Pioneer could not find the equalizer as the Gators walked away with a Bi-County League victory in Huntington on Monday. 

Kyler McClelland made six saves for the Panthers. 

Frontier 4, Ware 0 — The Redhawks scored three first half goals, with Maddie Fagan tallying twice and adding an assist, to earn a win over Ware on Monday in South Deerfield. 

Carly Robertson added a first half goal while senior Molly Gates made a penalty kick in the second half. Seniors Maddie Bennett and Mae Hoff added assists while Jocelyn Antes made four saves in goal.

Greenfield 2, Granby 2 — It was an impressive performance from the Green Wave, which went on the road and shared the points with high-powered Granby on Monday.

Clivens Carter Michel netted both Greenfield goals, with assists from Caleb Thomas and Jacob Blanchard.

Goalie Liam Grahame-Lawson recorded eight saves in net for the Wave.

Mahar 3, Southwick 0 — Matt Soucy found the back of the net twice while Tristan Gaj, who opened the game in goal, moved up to attack and tallied a second half goal to help the Sens pull out a win over the Rams in a Moriarty League contest on Monday. 

Gaj made five saves to open the game while Lucas Isrow and Colton Fausett came on to each make a save in the win. 

Pioneer 4, Mount Everett  0 —  The Panthers are heating up heading into the stretch of the season, winning three of their last four with a 4-0 triumph over the Eagles in Northfield on Monday. 

Kurt Redeker kicked off the scoring off a dish from Alex McClelland to give Pioneer before Tad Loud later sent a pass from his defensive position to Judah Glenn, who dribbled through the Mount Everett defense and buried the shot to make it a 2-0 game at the half. 

Mason Cummings later sent a cross in to McClelland, who headed it home to add to the lead. Glenn closed out the scoring, bashing home a rebound off of a shot by Cummings. 

Gavin Gammell and Hayden Killeen each made three saves in the win. 

Smith Voc 4, Franklin Tech 0 — Niko Ndrue scored twice while Chase Thayer and Cam Ball also found the back of the net as the Vikings defeated the visiting Eagles in a Tri-County League contest on Monday. 

Weekend results

Greenfield 12, Pathfinder 5 — Mia Snedeker recorded five goals and an assist while Tayler Bergeron tallied four goals and two assists as the Green Wave cruised past the Pioneers on Saturday. 

“Mia has lead the way for us this season on our attack and today was no different but it was great to see other girls step up as well,” Greenfield coach Ben Johnson said. “Tayler Bergeron has been showing us what she is capable of lately. It’s great to see her growing as the season goes on into her own indi vidual player where she’s creating not just her own shot but shots for her teammates as well.”

Natalia Cody and Sarah McCloud scored their first career varsity goals while Suhani Patel also found the back of the net in the win. Cody (2), McCloud and Inga Petcu provided assists while Annie Cobileanschi made seven saves in the victory.
