DEERFIELD — Railroad employees were able to quickly extinguish a fire that broke out on railroad ties over the Connecticut River on Monday morning.

Crews from the Deerfield Fire District, as well as the Montague Center and Greenfield fire departments, were dispatched to tracks crossing over the Connecticut River mid-Monday morning. According to the Deerfield Fire District’s Facebook page, the crews were only needed to soak hot spots on the bridge, as railroad employees were able to quickly knock down fires on burning railroad ties.
