Editor’s note: This questionnaire was completed by Doug Mayo, one of five candidates on the ballot for Greenfield City Council in the Nov. 2 election. Mayo is running unopposed to represent Precinct 8. Look for more questionnaires from City Council and School Committee candidates throughout the week.

How long have you lived in Greenfield? I have lived in Greenfield since 2003. I was born in Greenfield in 1959 and raised in Greenfield. I left for 20 years to live in Northampton.

What qualities would you bring to the City Council? Leadership, knowledge of Greenfield and the ability to connect to people on their level.

Are you up-to-date on property taxes? Have you ever been delinquent on your taxes? I owe no taxes. I’m all paid up.

Which subcommittees would you be interested in serving on and why? The Ways and Means Committee — to better understand and explain residents’ fiscal-related questions. The Appointments and Ordinances Committee — again, to better understand what is coming to the council as far as possible ordinances and explain them to the residents I already serve, and to know who is serving Greenfield committees and pass on any vacancies.

What should the city’s priorities be in terms of the revitalization of downtown? I think the first priority should be to fill all the vacant storefronts in Greenfield and make more low-cost living.

What is your stance on ballot Question 1, regarding the proposed change to the city charter? I am planning on voting yes on Question 1 as I believe 7% is a fair compromise.
