For the third year in a row, the Greenfield hockey team saw its season come to an end in the Round of the 32 of the MIAA Division 4 tournament.

The 25th-seeded Green Wave endured a full travel day on Thursday, heading east via bus and ferry to play at No. 8 Martha’s Vineyard. The host Vineyarders led 2-0 after one period but exploded for five goals in the second to pull away for a 10-0 victory at Martha’s Vineyard Ice Arena.

Martha’s Vineyard (10-9-2) will host No. 9 Ashland in the Round of 16 on Sunday.

Greenfield ended its season 11-9-1 overall.

The Vineyarders led 2-0 into the second period, when the hosts stepped on the gas. Just seven seconds into the middle stanza, Liam Conley netted his second of the afternoon when he snuck through on a faceoff and snuck one past Greenfield goalie Cooper Smith.

That opened the floodgates for the Vineyard, which scored five goals in the second period and three in the third to pull away and book a spot in the Round of 16 for the second year in a row.
