GREENFIELD — Three people were taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon with minor injuries after a head-on collision on Cheapside Street.

According to Deputy Police Chief William Gordon, police responded at 2:30 p.m. to a report of a head-on collision by the railroad bridge near the intersection with Hope Street.

Gordon said a 2016 Toyota RAV4 was traveling west on Cheapside Street when the driver, a 19-year-old Northampton resident, lost control coming around a right turn and collided with an eastbound 1999 GMC Denali, driven by a 63-year-old Feeding Hills resident who had a 62-year-old passenger.

Cheapside Street was closed for about an hour between Hope Street and Montague City Road while crews cleared the area. Both vehicles were towed.

All three people were transported by ambulance with what appeared to be minor injuries, according to Gordon. One person was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, while the other two were transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center.

Gordon said the 19-year-old was issued a civil citation for failing to use care in turning.
