Greenfield Public Library brightened the day

I’m writing to express gratitude of cosmic proportions to the Greenfield Public Library staff for hosting their eclipse viewing party this past Monday, Aug. 21.

How do you organize a successful community gathering like this one? You planet! And Beverly Bullock, Lisa Prolman, Ellen Boyer, Marjorie Curtis, and Kay Lyons did an absolutely stellar job.

My family and I appreciated the half-moon (or was it half-sun?) cookies and other eclipse-themed snacks and cool beverages on that particularly sunny day. My 4-year-old daughter had an out-of-this-world time playing and chatting with children of all ages as they knelt on the sidewalk, using chalk to sketch stars and shade in the real-time progress on the eclipse chalk drawing.

She is still remarking on how fun it was to watch the moon “photobomb” the sun through the safety glasses you provided and pinhole viewer you helped her make. What a joy to be able to share these moments with her along with middle school students I teach, their families, and so many other stargazers in the Greenfield community; it truly was an event of a lifetime. Thank you, GPL. Shine on.
