Revelations after cancer

Friday, January 05, 2018

It seems to me that everyone hits a wall in life, and they’re never the same after. In my case, I had to go to the emergency room to find out I had colon cancer.

I’m not a doctor, but I would like to pass along my experience so maybe someone else won’t go through what I did.

I’ve never been a believer of colonoscopies because I heard horror stories about having to drink the liquid medicine before you get examined. I was a believer in stool tests. Then came the day in August of this year when I ate some corn-on-the-cob, and at midnight I had pain in my stomach like someone was stabbing me to death. The pain was so bad I had to go to the emergency room.

I had X-rays done which showed a blockage in my colon — it turned out to be cancerous. I had an operation and half my colon had to be taken out to get rid of the cancer, and little did I know the cancer had spread to my lymph nodes, which were also taken out.

Today, I’m going for chemotherapy to stop any cancer from spreading in my body. I wouldn’t still be around if I hadn’t eaten that corn.

My mistakes almost cost me my life, so if anyone out there believes the way I did, please think twice.
