Republican Florida state Sen. Ileana Garcia is proposing a bill that would create the “Freedom Fighters Fund,” which would provide up to $5 million in support for a presidential candidate who faces a federal or state criminal trial. Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis said the bill is vital to defending candidates from “legal, partisan, political attacks by the Department of Justice or State Attorneys. [...] If we can help and support a Florida candidate for the White House, that’s just good from a dollars and cents perspective.”

Trump, as you know, lives at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.

Trump’s legal bills are mounting due to the 91 felony charges he faces in four separate cases, including conspiring to defraud the United States when he tried overturn his 2020 election loss, both at the national level and in Georgia, and falsifying business records to cover up $130,000 in hush money paid to porn star Stormy Daniels.

The proposed $5 million for the new fund would come from the state’s public campaign-matching funds program, which would later be replenished from voluntary donations via driver’s license registrations, according to Patronis.

Upon hearing of the proposal, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis promised to veto any such legislation.

On a side note, back in March of last year, Trump blasted DeSantis for wanting to give insurance companies wide protections from lawsuits, labeling it “The worst insurance scam in the entire country.”

You really cannot make this stuff up.
