In a Dec. 29 guest column, writer Michael Seward suggests that opposition to the proposed housing development in Leverett is racist and immoral (“Leverett housing a counter to injustice”). However, he neglects to describe the project being proposed.

It would add hundreds of housing units to a town that currently has only about 800 units. According to the development manager for the project, the development will be an upscale, possibly gated, community in which the residents will enjoy (and pay for) the use of a luxurious spa, fitness center, swimming pool, bowling alleys, and tennis courts.

It is hard to see how the writer could consider any opposition to such a project to be in the same category as racist redlining.
