It wasn’t looking good for the Mahar boys basketball team with six minutes to play against Drury on Thursday. 

Drury held a 47-40 lead and looked like it was heading toward a Hampshire League South victory. 

The Sens had other ideas. 

Mahar outscored the Blue Devils 14-2 from that point on to stay unbeaten on the season with a 54-49 comeback victory in Orange. 

"It was a typical [Drury] coach [Jack] Racette team who really battled and left it all out there,” Senator coach Chad Softic said. “I have nothing but respect for how his teams compete. It was a great high school game.  I was really pleased the way we showed some mental toughness and resilience. We have so much to clean up but some games you have to just grind and we did that tonight.” 

Will Barnes and Jayden Delgado paced the Senators (4-0). Barnes scored 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while Delgado scored 16 points and snatched 12 boards. 

Derek Collins tossed in eight points, Morgan Softic added seven points while Lucas Isrow scored five points and dished seven assists in the win. 

Greenfield 67, Frontier 64 — It came down to the wire at Goodnow Gymnasium on Thursday. 

Green Wave Jon Breor converted an and-one to give Greenfield a 64-62 lead in the final minute. The Green Wave got a stop and made its free throws to squeak out a Hampshire League South victory. 

Breor finished with a game-high 23 points for Greenfield. Caleb Thomas added 19 points, Caleb Murray tallied 11 points, Oli Postera scored 10 points while Jacob Blanchard knocked down a 3 for the Green Wave. 

Max Millette and Nico Fasulo both scored 16 points for Frontier. Garrett Dredge tallied 11 points, Owen Babb scored 10 points while Sasha Dragicevich finished with eight points in the loss. 

Athol 60, Franklin Tech 38 — Ben Kearney tallied 21 points to help the Bears pick up a Hampshire League North victory over the visiting Eagles at Mallet Gymnasium on Thursday. 

Athol led 41-11 at the half. 

Angel Castillo scored 12 points, Ethan Bacigalupo tossed in 10 points, Aaron Ouellet scored six points and Colby Goodwin tallied four points for the Bears. 

Robert Belval scored 17 points, Gabe Mota tallied nine points while Cam Candelaria, Nolan Stafford and Alex Knapp each had four points for Franklin Tech. 

Pioneer 67, Smith Academy 38 — The Panthers made it five wins in a row to open the season, building a 44-19 halftime lead to cruise to an independent victory at Messer Gymnasium on Thursday. 

Josh Wood led the way with 26 points, with Brayden Thayer adding 17 points while Kurt Redeker tallied 12 points and eight assists for Pioneer. 

Alex McClelland recorded five points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals while Hugh Cyhowski scored four points in the victory. The Panthers led 44-19 at the half. 

Mount Greylock 52, Turners 47 — The Thunder erased a 21-4 first quarter deficit, scoring 25 second quarter points to tie the game at 29 going into the break. 

Turners then held a 38-37 lead going into the fourth but the Mounties outscored the Thunder 15-6 in the final eight minutes to pull away with a Hampshire League North victory in Turners on Thursday. 

Jackson Cogswell finished an 18 point, 11 rebound double-double for Turners. Deven Sloan and Alex Quezada each recorded nine points, Caden Williams scored six points while Joey Mosca tallied two points, 10 rebounds and five steals in the loss.

Agawam 78, Turners 47 — Liam Bliss won the 100 breast (1:18.30) and the 50 free (25.61) in   the Thunders’ loss to the Brownies in Agawam on Thursday.
