The Turners Falls volleyball team celebrated Senior Night in style. 

The Thunder, which secured the Northern League title last week, picked up their eighth win in a row on Monday via a 25-11, 25-19, 25-6 independent sweep of West Springfield in Turners Falls. 

All four Thunder seniors contributed in the win. Taylor Greene dished 12 assists while adding 15 aces, five kills and three digs, Jill Reynolds tallied one kill and seven aces, Sydney Rivera finished with one kill and two digs while Ian Bastarache came up with six digs. 

Madi Liimatainen (eight kills, four aces, three digs) and Tatianna Carr-Williams (four kills) also contributed in the win. 

Athol 3, Mahar 2 — The Sens made it a match after falling down two sets, going out and winning the third and fourth to force a fifth set, but the Bears turned it around to come away with a wild 25-20, 25-16, 10-25, 18-25, 15-8 victory over their rivals in Orange on Monday. 

Athol’s Giana Vaillancourt dished 22 assists while adding three aces, Alma White tallied 14 assists, four aces and four kills, Olivia Mayer put down seven kills and three aces while Anna Duquette finished with seven kills in the triumph. 

Madelynn Burgess (six aces, nine assists, one dig), Briana Dicato (four aces, one kill, one block), Scarleth Aranda Lebron (four aces, one dig) and Hayden Comeau (five aces, six kills, one assist) had big games for Mahar. 

Franklin Tech 3, Smith Voc 0 — Brooke Smith put down three kills to go with two aces and a block, helping the Eagles to a comfortable 25-20, 25-11, 25-16 independent sweep on Monday night.

Haleigh Benoit also had three kills for Franklin Tech, and Skylei LaPan contributed two aces and two digs in the win.

Mohawk Trail 3, Greenfield 0 — The Warriors got out to a fast start and didn’t look back, leading to a 25-15, 25-17, 26-24 victory at Nichols Gymnasium on Monday. 

Abby Moffatt put down eight aces, Grace Davenport finished with four aces and one dig, Madie Pettengill recorded five aces and four kills, Riley Giard put down four kills, Jade Wheeler had two digs and Maddie Cosentino dished five assists in the win. 

Paloma Cruz-Lopez (two kills, three aces, four digs), Julia Belville (five kills, six aces) and Giomaris Collado Bonilla (three kills, six digs) played well for Greenfield. 

Frontier 3, Longmeadow 2 — It was a thriller in Longmeadow on Monday. 

The Lancers won the fourth set in blowout fashion, 25-7, to force a fifth and final set. Frontier raced out to a 6-0 lead in the fifth but Longmeadow stormed back to take a 14-10 lead. Down to their final point, the Redhawks ripped off four straight to tie it and went on to win the set to come away with a 25-14, 18-25, 25-23, 7-25, 7-15 Eastern League victory. 

Caroline Deane finished with 19 kills and 14 digs in the win. Kate DeMaio, who went on a service run in the fifth, tallied four kills and two aces while Gabby Adams (seven kills, three aces), Emilie Candelaria (five kills), Olivia Machon (three kills, three aces) and Allie Pierce (33 assists) came up big in the win. 

 Field hockey

Greenfield 0, Agawam 0 — The Green Wave and Brownie defenses stepped up on Monday, with neither side able to produce a goal which led to a scoreless Suburban League draw in Agawam. 

Ainslee Flynn made nine saves for Greenfield. Agawam held a 9-6 shot advantage and had a 13-1 corner edge. 

Smith Academy 1, Turners 0 — Sophia Jagodzinski scored off an assist from Cat Kokoski for the lone goal of the game, as the Falcons walked away with a Valley League victory in Turners on Monday. 

Conner Herzig made two saves for Turners. 

Golf

Frontier 169, Greenfield 175 — Ryan Cetto continued to play well for the Redhawks, earning medalist honors with a round of 36 in the team win at Cherry Hill Golf Course in Amherst.

Cam Skiffington shot 43 for Frontier, which also received  scoring performances from Gabe  Solodky (44) and Cade Allenby (46).

Greenfield’s Preston Lafleur had the low round of the day for his team (41), followed by Conner Bergeron (43), Michael Pierce (44) and Bryce Avery (47).

 Pioneer 170, Franklin Tech 172 — Mike Stennes carded a team-low 41, helping the Panthers squeak out a win over the Eagles at Northfield Golf Course on Monday. 

Brayden Thayer (42), Ethan Mauthe (43) and Ben Werner (44) scored in the win. Franklin Tech’s Brady Booska was the match medalist with a 38 while Tyler Lafountain (42), Gabe Mota (44) and Braeden Talbot (48) rounded out the Eagle scorers. 

Mohawk Trail 181, Pathfinder 216 — Phineas Tuttman fired a 39 as the Warriors came away with a victory over the Pioneers at Cold Springs Country Club on Monday. 

Logan Moore shot a 44, Douglas Wilcox car ded a 46 and Deegan Kelleher walked away with a 52 to round out the Mohawk Trail scorers. 

Weekend results

 Field hockey

Frontier 1, Greenfield 0 — Macy DeMaio scored the lone goal of the day off an assist from Ashley Taylor, helping the Redhawks secure a win over the Green Wave at Deerfield Academy on Saturday. 

Kyra Richards didn’t need to make a save for Frontier while Ainslee Flynn stopped 11 shots for Greenfield. 

Deerfield Academy

The Deerfield Academy football team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 42-21 victory over Loomis over the weekend. 

Also over the weekend the DA field hockey team beat Loomis, 1-0, in overtime, the Big Green volleyball team beat Hopkins (3-0) while the boys water polo team earned a 15-13 win over Williston and lost to Hamden Hall (13-9). 

Elsewhere the DA girls soc cer team lost to Loomis (6-1), the Big Green boys cross country team beat Loomis (25-31) and Choate (49) while their girls cross country team lost to Loomis (15-48) and beat Choate (27-28). On Friday the DA boys soccer team beat Hotchkiss, 1-0.
