The Turners Falls boys soccer team continues to prove itself in its first season back on the pitch. 

The Thunder entered Tuesday’s contest against Holyoke with a 3-2-1 record and added another tally in the win column, walking away with a 5-0 victory over the visiting Purple Knights under the lights at the Bourdeau Fields Complex. 

It was Yolvin Ovalle who did the damage offensively for Turners Falls, as he scored all five goals in the win.

Rojelio Galvez, Curtis Kretchmar and Noah Kolodziej provided the assists, and goalie Jackson Cogswell pitched a shutout between the pipes.

Athol 3, PVCICS 0 — Blaise, Nathan Parayson and Antonio Carbone each found the back of the net for the Bears, which shut out the Dragons in Athol on Tuesday. 

Braydon York and Aiden Kirwin recorded assists while Drake Wing made six saves in goal for Athol. 

Mahar 4, Easthampton 0 — Have a day, Dom Whitman.

The Mahar sniper buried all four goals for the Senators, two in each half, to help the visitors to a 4-0 win at Nonotuck Park in Easthampton on Tuesday.

Whitman has scored six goals in the team’s last two games, helping Mahar improve to 7-2 overall. Lucas Isrow, David Phelps and Sam Connors picked up assists in the win, and goalie Tristan Gaj made four saves to pick up the shutout.

PV Christian 2, Franklin Tech 1 — Jack Gancarz netted the lone goal of the game for the Eagles, pulling the visitors level in the 18th minute, but host PV Christian scored the game-winning goal in the 47th minute when Rafi Tawil scored his second of the contest for a 2-1 win in Springfield on Tuesday.

The two teams played to a tie in Turners Falls earlier this season.

“We didn’t come to play today, didn’t wake until the last seven minutes of the game when we finally played with some urgency,” Franklin Tech coach Kurt Richardson said. “By then, the clock wasn’t in our favor.”

Greenfield 5, Mt. Everett 3 — The Green Wave erupted for four goals in the opening 31 minutes on Thursday to take a 4-0 lead into the half, which ultimately led to a Schmid League victory over the Eagles in Sheffield. 

The win was the fifth in a row for Greenfield. 

Clivens Carter Michel tallied twice in the opening five minutes before earning a hat trick in the 25th minute. Caleb Thomas scored in the 31st minute before Jacob Blanchard make an Olympico goal, scoring on a corner kick that went in without being touched in the 51st minute.

Thomas, Jack Laurie (2) and Daniel Pena-Chadee provided the assists while Liam Grahame-Lawson made six saves in the victory.

Girls soccer

Pioneer 6, Greenfield 1 — It was the Hailey Ring show in Northfield on Tuesday, as the senior tossed in four goals to propel the Panthers to a Bi-County League win over the visiting Green Wave. 

Natalie Rios and Leah Potter also found the back of the net for Pioneer while Maddie Keefe dished a pair of assists. Mia Snedeker had the lone Greenfield tally.

Franklin Tech 4, Gateway 0 — Anne Kolodziej tossed in a hat trick for the Eagles, which picked up a Bi-County League victory over the Gators in Turners on Tuesday. 

Kolodziej opened the game by assisting a Mia Marigliano goal, then scored the next three for Tech. Her first tally came just before the half off an assist from Ella Kolodziej, her second goal came off an assist from Marigliano and her final goal was assisted by Layla Hammond. 

Kylee Gamache and Sheyenne Ballentine combined for two saves while Madyson Lynde, Samantha Duncan, Trinity Doane and Sofia Moreno held down the defense for Tech. 

Volleyball

Franklin Tech 3, Greenfield 0 —Brooke Smith recorded one ace and three kills, Abby Carlo finished with two kills and three digs while Lily Josephs tallied two aces, one kill and three digs for the Eagles in a  25-6, 25-11, 25-17 triumph over the Green Wave in a Northern League contest at Nichols Gymnasium. 

Mily Ocasio Rivera came up with five digs, Odyssea Camero Rivera had two aces and seven assists while Mackensie Goncalves tallied two aces and three kills for Greenfield. 

Turners 3, Mahar 0 — Janelle Massey put down eight kills and seven digs while coming up with four digs for the Thunder in a 25-17, 25-15, 25-8 Northern League sweep over the Senators in Orange on Tuesday. 

Taylor Greene dished 13 assists while adding six kills, three aces and four digs, Tatianna Carr-Williams smashed three kills while Keira Richardson-Meatty tallied two kills, three aces and two digs in the victory for Turners. 

Madelynn Burgess (six aces, seven assists, five digs), Kamryn Hart (one ace, three kills, one dig), Mckenzie Scribner (one ace, five digs) and Hayden Comeau (one ace, five kills, three digs) led Mahar in the defeat. 

Field hockey

Belchertown 3, Franklin Tech 0 — Laura Cote, Mya Philpott and Edith Audette tallied goals for the host Orioles en route to a key County League victory in a game pitting the top two teams in the league on Tuesday night.

Franklin Tech goalie Maddison Markwell made five saves in net while Belchertown goalie Brooke Stelmokas stopped all seven shots she faced. The teams meet Oct. 20 in Turners Falls

Turners 4, Mohawk Trail 2 — Ledwin Villafana finished with a hat trick as the Thunder walked away with a Valley League win over the Warriors in Turners on Tuesday. 

Jaade Duncan also found the back of the cage, Avery Tela (2), Ella Guidaboni and Villafana recorded assists while Conner Herzig made five saves for Turners. 

Rachel Pease scored both goals for Mohawk Trail while Izzy Finn made four saves and Cleome Gardner stopped six shots in goal. 

Minnechaug 3, Frontier 0 — The Redhawks were unable to find the back of the cage in a Suburban League loss to the Falcons in Wilbraham on Tuesday. 

Kyra Richards came up with 17 saves in goal for Frontier. 

Longmeadow 4, Greenfield 2 — The Green Wave held off a fierce Lancer attack, which peppered Greenfield keeper Ainslee Flynn with 24 shots, but the Green Wave were held to just five shots on goal themselves as they fell to Longmeadow, 4-2, in Greenfield Tuesday in a Suburban League contest. 

Addison Harrington opened the scoring for Greenfield in the the first quarter off an assist from Ivy Rae. Rae later tallied for the Green Wave off an assist from Riley Thayer. Greenfield finished with a 6-3 corner advantage.

Amherst 3, Frontier 1 — Maddie Fagan scored the lone Redhawk goal in an independent loss to the Hurricanes in South Deerfield Monday. 

Jazzy Hayes made 14 saves in the loss.
