It came down to the wire between the Greenfield and Mohawk Trail boys cross country teams on Tuesday at Highland Park. 

The Green Wave and Warriors were tied 28-28 when the scores were tallied, though Greenfield’s Max Caron had the fastest time of each team’s sixth place finisher (22 minutes, nine seconds) to give Greenfield the victory. Greenfield also defeated McCann Tech (19-44) while Mohawk Trail picked up a win against McCann (19-43). 

“Max was the hero of the day,” Green Wave coach Stu Elliott said. 

Jackson Caron placed second (18:02), Dylan Breiwick took sixth (20:46), Mason Youmell came in seventh (21:13), Alex Scotera placed eighth (21:21) while Javion Williams came in ninth (22:05) for Greenfield. 

Vincent Gauthier had the top overall time (17:28) while Peter Healy (fourth, 19:34), Rex Kuoppala (seventh, 21:13), Aymeric Loucka (22:08) and Leo Boltz (12th, 22:10) rounded out the top five Mohawk Trail finishers. 

• In the girls race between Greenfield, Mohawk Trail and McCann Tech, the Warriors walked away with wins over the Green Wave (20-35) and the Hornets (26-31) while McCann beat Greenfield (23-34). 

Virginia Krezmien placed second (23:24), Natalie Lanoue took third (23:32), Anya Read came in fourth (24:02), Valerie Bzomowski earned fifth (24:12) while Ettalynn Thompson came in 17th (36:44) for the Warriors. 

Rosie Fortin (seventh, 26:28), Alice Fortin (eighth, 26:36), Levi Badillo (11th, 29:54), Wednesday Passiglia (12th, 30:59) and Bella Ekblom (16th, 36:00) were the top Greenfield finishers.

 Frontier’s Luke Howard (14:17) and Evan Hedlund (14:18) were the first two runners across the finish line, helping Frontier earn two victories on Tuesday in a meet in South Deerfield. 

Charlie Dennis (12th, 16:29), Oliver Brown (13th, 16:56) and Adam Paul (20th, 18:07) rounded out the Redhawk scorers.

Down two runners, the Sens were unable to pick up a win in a meet at Gateway on Tuesday. 

Jeff LaPlante took ninth (22:42) while Aiden Drake finished in 14th (25:29) for Mahar.

Frontier 27, Hampshire 29

Frontier 15, Easthampton 50 —
Leah Gump secured a second place finish with a time of 18:02 that helped pave the way to the Redhawks earning a trio of wins on Tuesday in a meet in South Deerfield. 

Sylvie DiBartolomeo placed fourth (18:20), Nicole Plasse came in fifth (18:40), Maia Christensen took seventh (18:56) while Liv Christensen placed ninth (19:11) for Frontier. 

Girls volleyball

Pioneer 3, Hampden Charter West 1 — Erin Killay put down 15 aces to lift the Panthers to an independent victory over Hampden Charter in Northfield on Tuesday. 

Abbie Ray finished with two kills and an assists, Aiden Wall had one kill, two assists and five aces while Roslynn Moore, Emma Strong and Avery Johnson each had an ace for Pioneer. 

Boys soccer

Pioneer 2, Greenfield 1 — Kurt Redeker scored two unassisted goals in the first half that lifted the Panthers to a Schmid League victory over the Green Wave in Greenfield on Tuesday. 

Redeker’s goals came in the 30th and 38th minute. Heskey Samu scored for Greenfield in the 42nd minute but the Green Wave were unable to secure the equalizer. 

Liam Grahame-Lawson made six saves for Greenfield while Pioneer keeper Ty Ellis stopped nine shots in the victory.

Mahar 3, South Hadley 0 — The  Sens took a 2-0 lead at the half and behind a strong defensive effort were able to hold onto the shutout to defeat the Tigers in a Moriarty League contest in South Hadley on Tuesday. 

It was Mahar’s third shutout win of the season. 

“We’re focused on keeping a clean sheet every game,” Senators coach Dan Guertin said. “That’s our number one goal. So far, so good.”

David Phelps, Dom Whitman and Matt Soucy were the Mahar goal scorers, with Lucas Isrow, Phelps and Whitman recording assists. Tristan Gaj made four saves including a huge one early in the game when the Tigers had a one-on-one with the Senator keeper. 

Four Rivers 6, Charlemont 0 — Christian Dimitriou and Russell Herbert each scored twice while Cooper Whitney and Riley Stanclift also found the back of the net for the Otters in a win over Charlemont on Tuesday. 

On Monday Four Rivers beat PVPA, 10-0, behind a hat trick from Whitney. 

Girls soccer

Four Rivers 7, Eagle Hill 2 — Sofia Slade and Aida Potter each tallied twice for the Otters in a win over Eagle Hill on Tuesday. 

Tirz Skelton, Stella Langlands and Sylvia Guillaume also scored while Olivia Long made five saves in the victory. 

Field hockey

Greenfield 2, Frontier 0 — Goals are hard to come by when the Green Wave and the Redhawks get together, but Greenfield was able to put two in the back of the net on Tuesday to earn a Suburban League victory over Frontier in South Deerfield on Tuesday. 

Grace Laurie and Mckenzie Boswell were the Green Wave scorers, with Gloria McDonald and Riley Thayer picking up the assists. Ainslee Flynn made seven saves in the win while Kyra Richards made two saves for Frontier. 

East Longmeadow 7, Turners 0 — Ava Gile scored a hat trick for the Spartans in a victory over the Thunder in East Longmeadow on Tuesday. 

Conner Herzig stopped 12 shots while Ele Bartolon made 10 saves for Turners. 

Golf

Pioneer 174, Franklin Tech 178 — It came down to the wire at Thomas Memorial on Tuesday, with Ben Werner carding a match-low 39 to help lift the Panthers to a victory over the Eagles. 

Brayden Thayer (44), Mike Stennes (45) and Ethan Mauthe (46) closed out the Pioneer scorers. Brady Booska and Gabe Mota each shot a 40 while Tyler Lafountain and Braeden Talbot both carded 49s to score for Franklin Tech. 

Frontier 163, Chicopee Comp 169 — Ryan Cetto and Cade Allenby both shot in the 30s for the Redhawks, Cetto finishing with a 36 while Allenby shot a 38 to help lead Frontier to a win over the Colts at Cherry Hill Golf Course on Tuesday. 

Cam Skiffington (43) and Addy Wood (45) rounded out the Redhawk scorers. 

Hopkins 163, Greenfield 171 — Johnny Marchefka shot a team-low 38 for the Green Wave in a loss to the Golden Hawks at the Country Club of Greenfield on Tuesday. 

Michael Pierce shot a 43, Preston Lafleur carded a 44 while Bryce Avery finished with a 46 to close out the Greenfield scorers.
