The Franklin Tech golf team can’t stop playing close matches. 

The Eagles entered Thursday’s match against Hopkins Academy on a three-game skid, though each of those matches were separated by just a few strokes. The club lost to Turners (177-178), Pioneer (174-178) and Mohawk Trail (194-200).

The luck changed against the Golden Hawks on Thursday, as Gabe Mota carded a 37 while Brady Booska came in with a 38 which allowed Franklin Tech to squeak out a 168-170 victory at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls.

Braeden Talbot came in with a 44 while Tyler Lafountain shot a 49 to help the Eagles secure the win. 

Greenfield 159, Frontier 177 — Johnny Marchefka was the match medalist, shooting a 36 to lead the Green Wave to a victory over the Redhawks at the Country Club of Grenefield on Thursday. 

Michael Pierce, Preston Lafleur and Conner Bergeron each shot a 41 for Greenfield in the win while Cam Skiffington (42), Ryan Cetto (43), Cade Allenby (45) and Gabe Solodky (47) scored for Frontier. 

Westfield Tech 184, Mohawk Trail 198 — Tech’s Dan O’Connor fired a 34 at Edge Hill Golf Course on Thursday, one of the lowest high school scores posted at Edge Hill, to lift Westfield Tech to a win over the Warriors. 

Logan Moore (44), Phineas Tuttman (48), Deegan Kelleher (52) and Doug Wilcox (54) scored for Mohawk Trail.

Quabbin 191, Athol 229 — Ethan Heuer shot a team-low 50 for the Bears in a loss to Quabbin at Ellinwood Country Club on Thursday. 

Dominik St. Andre (55), Brandon Adams (59) and Rafeal Lopez (65) closed out the scoring for Athol. 

Pioneer 170, Hampshire 171 — Brayden Thayer was the match medalist with a 39 while Ben Werner shot a 42 as the Panthers narrowly defeated the Raiders at Northfield Golf Course on Thursday. 

Ethan Mauthe (43) and Hugh Cyhowski (46) had big days to help Pioneer secure the match. 

Boys soccer

PVCICS 5, Franklin Tech 1 — The Dragons scored four goals in the first half to earn a Tri-County League win over the Eagles in Hadley on Thursday. 

PVCICS scored on an own goal in the 13th minute before Owen Wallace tallied in the 28th minute and Teddy Scott scored a pair before the halftime buzzer. James Scott closed out the Dragon scoring in the 70th minute. 

Dyllan Duvall had the lone Eagles goal, scoring in the 55th minute off an assist from Lucas Gadway. It was Duvall’s first career varsity point. 

Pioneer 6, Sci-Tech 1 — The Panthers scored three goals in the first half and tacked three more on during the second half of play, leading to a Schmid League victory in Springfield on Thursday. 

Alex McClelland opened the scoring before Kurt Redeker found the back of the net twice before the halftime whistle blew. Mason Cummings, Braeden Tsipenyuk and McClelland scored in the second half. Redeker, Matan Lerman-Smith, Jackson Glazier, Tad Loud, Will Glazier and Alex Sabin provided assists for Pioneer while Ty Ellis made five saves in goal. 

Smith Academy 1, Greenfield 0 — Sam Stanton broke the scoreless tie in the 76th minute, blasting in an indirect kick that was assisted by Ben Hudzik to give the Falcons a victory over the visiting Green Wave in a Schmid League contest on Thursday. 

Liam Grahame-Lawson made four saves for Greenfield. 

Athol 4, St. Mary’s 0 — Blaise finished with a pair of goals to get the Bears back in the win column with a win over the Saints in Athol on Thursday. 

Antonio Carbone and Elhadj also scored for Athol, with Nathan Parayson recording an assist. 

Girls soccer

Mahar 2, SICS 1 — The Senators got into the win column for the first time this fall, taking a 2-0 lead in the second half and not allowing the Bulldogs to even the score, as Mahar walked away with an independent win in Springfield on Thursday. 

Logan Burke scored off an assist from Jenna Nolette with nine minutes to go in the first half before Avery Savage found the back of the net with 35 minutes to play. SICS scored with 26 minutes left in the contest. 

“It was a really nice effort by the girls today,” Senators coach Chad Softic said. “We limited the mental mistakes that have really hurt us. Logan Burke had the best game of her career and her goal from 20 yards out was a beauty. Dakota Cleveland was outstanding as well at sweeper.”

Alivia Patch came up with four saves in the win. 

Smith Academy 2, Franklin Tech 1 — The visiting Falcons tallied both of their goals on free kicks, rallying from an early deficit to snatch a 2-1 independent victory Thursday night in Turners Falls.

Anne Kolodziej got the Eagles on the board 11 minutes into the first half, putting home a shot off a long throw-in from Laken Woodard for a quick 1-0 advantage.

Anna Scagel tied the game midway through the first half when she potted a direct kick from about 25 yards out to make it 1-1. Scagel helped set up the winner in the second half, when her free kick into the box was eventually put home in the 52nd minute by Caitlin Graves to make it 2-1.

Kylee Gamache made 15 saves in a standout performance between the pipes for the Eagles (5-2-1), while the defensive efforts of Samantha Duncan, Mady Lynde and Trinity Doane also shined.

Smith Academy goalie Madison Zononi stopped nine shots in the win.

Field hockey

Franklin Tech 7, Hampshire 0 — It was another dominant effort from the Eagles, which rolled to a perfect 8-0 on the season via a 7-0 County League victory on Thursday in Turners Falls.

Franklin Tech scored all seven of its goals in the first half.

Hannah Gilbert delivered a hat trick for the Eagles, and also assisted on another goal. Kate Trudeau followed with two goals and an assist, and Lilianna Inman also netted a pair of goals to round out the scoring. Mckenzie Sourdiffe-Phelps also notched an assist for the hosts, which are off until Monday when they travel to Holyoke.

Frontier 2, Agawam 0 — Ashlie Galenski and Ashley Taylor scored for the Redhawks in a Suburban League victory over the Brownies in Agawam on Thursday.  

Claire Kirkendall picked up an assist on Taylor’s goal while Kyra Richards made five saves in the victory.
