Get creative with cardboard boxes program at library

GREENFIELD — Children ages 2 to 12 are invited to use their imaginations to build big block creations out of recycled cardboard boxes at the Greenfield Public Library Children’s Room on Wednesday, Jan. 3, from noon to 8 p.m.

Supplies will be provided, but participants can also bring their own cardboard boxes.

Seven-week qigong series starts Jan. 9

GREENFIELD — Lynne Smith will lead a seven-week series of qigong classes on Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. between Jan. 9 and Feb. 20 at the Greenfield Senior Center.

Qigong is an ancient practice that offers benefits for the body, mind and spirit. It is a simple movement practice that is gentle, relaxing and easy to follow. All exercises are done standing. No experience is necessary.

Registration with a $45 payment is required by Jan. 5. Senior Center membership (free) is also required. Stop by the center’s front desk to register.

Tax information workshop on Jan. 8

GREENFIELD — Todd Cromack of Liberty Tax will lead a tax information workshop at the Greenfield Senior Center on Monday, Jan. 8, from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Cromack will give attendees an update on the changes for this year’s tax season, including the Massachusetts Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit increase. There will be time for questions and answers after the presentation.

Free blood pressure clinics available starting Jan. 3

GREENFIELD — Karli Sacco, director of Powerback Rehabilitation to You, will offer drop-in blood pressure monitoring clinics at the Greenfield Senior Center on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. starting Jan. 3.

Powerback Rehabilitation to You is a provider of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and wellness services for older adults.

Library seeks Teen Advisory Board members

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Public Library is seeking middle and high school aged youths to join its Teen Advisory Board.

At each meeting, members plan programs, community service projects and more.

Participants can also apply the volunteer hours to school volunteer requirements.

The next meeting is on Monday, Jan. 8, at 3:30 p.m. in the library’s Teen Room.

Virtual Author talk with Rebecca Serle set for Jan. 10

GREENFIELD — Join the Greenfield Public Library on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 8 p.m. for a virtual author talk with Rebecca Serle.

Serle will share her journey writing epic love stories, including “One Italian Summer,” “In Five Years,” “The Dinner List” and more.

Plus, in a special preview, Serle will briefly discuss her forthcoming novel (due out on March 5, 2024) called “Expiration Dates.”

WordPress help available through monthly program

GREENFIELD — Anyone who is interested in WordPress — beginners, developers, designers and administrators — is invited to meet in the Greenfield Public Library’s Conference Room on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 6 p.m.

Attendees can bring WordPress questions to make progress on a project, and may wish to bring a laptop to take notes or to share the screen.

Participants may need an HDMI port or adapter to plug into the big screen.

This free program meets on the second Wednesday of each month.

Free discussion to explore making connections

GREENFIELD — Social worker Matt Aversa will lead a free discussion at the Greenfield Senior Center exploring ways to be proactive about making connections with others on Thursday, Jan. 18, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Advance registration is required and space is limited to 11 participants.

Library hosting weekly film screenings

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Public Library will host film screenings each Thursday in January at 2 p.m., with movies ranging from joyful animation to historical fiction.

Doors open 30 minutes before the show starts.

Outside food and drinks are allowed.

Christmas tree disposal available

GREENFIELD — The Department of Public Works is advising Greenfield residents of two options for Christmas tree disposal:

■Residents who receive curbside trash collection can place their Christmas trees curbside for collection at no charge. The curbside collection period will be from Jan. 2 to Jan. 19. It will be on the same day as trash collection, however a different vehicle collects the trees.

■Residents can bring their Christmas trees to the Transfer Station at no charge. There is a $10 charge for non-Greenfield residents.

Transfer Station hours are Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Beginning Jan. 15, the Saturday hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
