Girl Scout cookie sales start Friday

HOLYOKE — Girl Scout cookie booth sales in Central and Western Massachusetts kick off Friday and will continue through March 8.

This season, Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts announced two new ways to celebrate young female leaders: new packaging reflecting the amazing experiences that cookie earnings make possible for girls, and a new lemon cookie available in select areas.

The new Girl Scout Cookie is Lemon-Ups, a crispy lemon cookie baked with messages inspired by Girl Scout entrepreneurs, according to a Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts press release. “I am a go-getter” and “I am an innovator” are among the eight phrases.

The new cookie joins past favorites including Thin Mints, Samoas, Trefoils, Do-si-dos, Tagalongs, S’mores and the gluten-free Toffee-tastic.

According to the release, the organization’s refreshed cookie packaging shows current Girl Scouts taking part in a diverse range of experiences available to members — from camping and canoeing, to exploring space science and designing robots, to taking action to improve their communities.

The cookie program teaches girls about entrepreneurship as they have fun, learning essential skills like money management, public speaking and decision-making. According to the release, nine in 10 Girl Scouts say the cookie program has built their entrepreneurship skills and their interest in pursuing entrepreneurship as a career path.
