ATHOL — The 2017 Fall Festival hosted by the North Quabbin Chamber of Commerce is ready to roll after being granted a one-day alcohol license from the Athol Selectboard.

The license for the event slated for Saturday, Sept. 16, allows for one day of alcohol consumption on town property. The Chamber of Commerce plans to operate a fenced-in beer garden in the parking spots near 444 Main St. from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The license was approved by a 3-1 vote. Rebecca Bialecki, the only Selectboard member to vote against the motion to grant the license, said she dislikes the idea of alcohol consumption on town property. The beer garden has in the past been positioned outside the Athol House at 491 Main St.

The 35th annual Athol Fall Festival is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mark Wright, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce and visitors bureau, said people 21 and older will be allowed to purchase beer in clear cups and consume it in the beer garden. No other types of alcohol will be available.

The festival has a rain date of Sept. 23.
