GREENFIELD — Police are investigating a breaking and entering that led to a reported robbery at the Dunkin’ Donuts at 60 Mohawk Trail early Monday morning.

The alleged robbery poses no danger to the public at all, Greenfield Police Chief Robert Haigh said. People should feel comfortable going to Dunkin, he said.

The amount of money, including plastic envelopes of cash, taken from the store is not immediately known. Police are collecting a group of potential suspects at the time and hope to know more information Tuesday.

At around 3:35 a.m. Monday local police responded to a reported breaking and entering at Dunkin’, which sits on the corner.

Police found damage to the rear door and muddy boot prints. The surveillance video shows a man entering through the back door and into the office. Money was taken from the office and from cash drawers in the kitchen.

The suspect on the video was seen wearing all-black clothing, with a hoodie over the person’s head and tied closed. Police could see a red undershirt. The suspect wore black gloves and boots.

The Dunkin’ is expected to move into the base of the new hotel that will be built at the former location of the Rodeway Inn, or previously the Howard Johnson. That hotel is in the early stages of construction. If Dunkin’ does move there, hotel management expects it to have a drive-thru, which could mitigate some of the parking issues people in town attribute to the current one.
