Jeff French was the winner of the Packard Heights Mini-Triathlon in Orange on Sunday, completing the course in a time of 50 minutes. 

Valerie Corso was the top female finisher with a time of 50 minutes, 13 seconds followed by Ingrid Allen (1:00:55). Eliot Nottleson took second among men (56:10) while Robert Boucher took third (58:44). 

Jen Skelton, Amy Loewenthal and Pat Aguda Brown were the top female team (57:02), Andrea Deanna, Al Deacon and Addy Lipiec were the top mixed team (54:49) while Emily Graves and Chris Gueli were the top family team (1:10:26). 

Corso was presented the Ken Holmes Memorial Award medal by finishing with the top running time (17:18) while Nottleson had the best biking (15:46) and kayak (13:16) times. 

Lucas Boucher, Dom Corso, Charlotte Navarro, Madison Navarro, Addy Lipiec and Cole Lipiec participated in the children’s mini-mini triathlon. 

Mahan wins Green River marathon

Roxbury’s Nathan Mahan led the way at the New England Green River Marathon on Sunday.

The annual 26.2-mile jaunt that runs from Vermont and finishes at Greenfield Community College had 14 finishers break the three-hour mark, led by Mahan with a winning time of 2 hours, 41 minutes and 44 seconds.

Burlington, Vt.’s Kasey Gelfand was the runner-up, crossing with a time of 2:44:48, followed in third place by Watertown’s Sean Bullock (2:46:42).

Dylan Broderick of Middlesex, Vt. was the female winner, posting a time of 3:13:00. Natick’s Maggie Fox was the female runner-up in 3:16:50.

Locally, Greenfield’s Neal Gifford was the top Franklin County finisher on the day. Gifford took 41st overall with a time of 3:17:19. Marcy Cabanas of Greenfield was next in 51st position, posting a time of 3:21:56.

Tennis

GTA

The Greenfield Tennis Association held its semifinal matches for its doubles league on Monday at the Highland Clay Courts, with Team LK & The Atholes (Bill Thompson and Kyle Maroni) knocking off The McSeavards (Chris Seaver and Gabe Seaver), 6-2, 6-2 to reach the finals. 

The Jaywalkers (Alden Booth, Chris Ferriter, Jay Healy and Guy Ardrey) beat The Claymores (David Hernandez and Joe Moore), 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) in the other semifinal match. The finals are set for Sept. 5 at 4:40 p.m. at the Highland Clay Courts. 

Golf

56th Greenfield Open       

Tim McKenna won a scorecard playoff after firing a round of 68 to take first place in the Blue Division at the 56th Greenfield Open over the weekend at the Country Club of Greenfield.

Bob Rainville also shot 68 to finish in a tie for first place, followed by Jason Kelton, David Kennedy and Michael Mertes who all shot 70.

Shawn Houle was the next winner with a 68 in the Blue Division, while Kevin St. Laurent and Doug Riel tied for second (69). 

In the White Division, Shaun Fleming set the bar with a low gross of 73. Alex Towne, John Dempsey and Patrick Varner all shot 76 to tie for second, while Phil Reilley was the net winner with a 65. Chris Osborne, Mark Castelhano and David Gere tied for second with 70s.

In the Black Division, Jack Killeen shot 71 to take low gross honors, while Barry Dow and Ernie Patnode were second with 77s. The net winners were Phil Delorey and Terry Sinclair (66).

Terry Boyce won the women’s division with a low gross of 73, followed in second place by Helen Wright with an 84. Jill Mertes had the low net of 68.

Thomas Memorial Senior championships

Salloy Malloy shot a low gross of 87, earning top honors as the women’s senior champion at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls over the weekend.

Kim Lynch was the runner-up after shooting 89, while Sue Mailloux had the low net of 66 and Elaine Barnard was next with a 75.

■ On the men’s side, Charlie McCracken shot 73 to take the senior title, followed by Bob Bourbeau (74) and Rod Herzig (77).

Charlie Peters was the net winner (67), with Paul Barnard second (71) and Dan Malloy third (73).

In the Super Senior Division, Bob Walker shot 77 to claim the title, holding off runner-up Stephan Smith (86). Todd Currie won the net title (71) and Rod Brunelle was second (73).

Skins winners included Charlie McCracken (two), Wayne Lacey, Stephan Smith, Elaine Barnard, Bob Bourbeau, Joey Richotte, Rod Brunelle and Bob Walker.

Edge Hill Senior Championship

The Edge Hill Golf Course held its Senior Championship over the weekend, with Mark Graves taking home the championship with a 36 hole total gross score of 165. 

Bret Bourman finished as the runner-up with a score of 174. 

In net scoring Ronnie Parker took first (132) while Brett Sallee placed second (137). 

Feed the families tourney

Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls will host the Feed the Families Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 9 (rain date Sept. 10) with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The four-person/team scramble still has a few openings remaining. Cost is $280/team, and all teams must be paid in full by Sept. 2. The tournament serves as a fundraiser to help with putting together Thanksgiving Day baskets. Donations can also be made by check to: TMGCC, P.O. Box 16, Turners Falls, MA, 01376.

The tournament will offer free hot dogs for golfers on the course. There will be cash prizes, raffles, skins and closest to the pin competitions. For mo re information, call 413-863-8003 or 413-659-3061.

Baseball

WMass Fall League

Hugh Cyhowski picked up the win on the mound, and Jackson  Glazier nailed down the save with two strikeouts in two innings as Nuke City defeated Rip City, 12-7, in a Western Mass. Fall Baseball League Varsity Division contest on Saturday in Pittsfield.

Nuke City, which features 11 players from Pioneer, two from Greenfield, one from Mahar and one from Monty Tech, scored 12 runs on 15 hits. Michael Pierce had two doubles and an RBI, while Braeden Tsipenyuk doubled and drove in a run. Evan Tsipenyuk and Jackson Campbe ll both had hits and two RBIs, while Ethan Quinn, Alex McClelland, Sam Connors, Ethan Mauthe and Ben Werner all hit safely.
