Bulletin Board: Wright, Zilinski capture Sawmill River 10K titles on New Year’s Day

Over 100 athletes competed in the Sawmill River 10K Run on New Year’s Day in Montague Center, with Owen Wright crossing first as the male winner and Anna Zilinski the female winner. 

Wright, of Boulder, Colo., was the first runner across the finish line, completing the race in a time of 32 minutes, 37 seconds. Zilinski of Swansey, N.H. won for a second straight year on the women’s side, finishing in a time of 39:16. 

In the 17 and Under group, Colrain’s Virginia Krezmien took first on the women’s side (49:46) while Caron Richardson took first on the men’s side (42:26). In the age 40-49 division Leyden’s Laure Van den Broek took first on the female side (43:45) while Cambridge’s Christopher Parker won on the men’s side (39:41). In the 50-59 division Deerfield’s Jennifer Schimmel won on the female side (47:15) while Michael Hoberman of Shelburne won on the men’s side (45:11). In the 60-plus division Debra Hevey of Chicopee was the female winner (51:05) while Amherst’s Nat Larson was the male winner (35:35).

The Franklin County 10U White hockey team played a pair of games over the weekend, falling to the Yellow Jackets (5-2) and Westfield (4-3). 

Brody Suhl and Greyson Boron scored while Nicholas Brisson had an assist against the Yellow Jackets. Against Westfield Brantly Godfrey, Harlon Hickey and Boron scored while Hickey and Shaye Tayler provided the assists.
