Bulletin board: Thomas Memorial hosting Kelli Martin Memorial Golf Tournament to Fight Cancer on July 22

Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls will host the Kelli Martin Memorial Golf Tournament to Fight Cancer on Saturday, July 22.

The four-person team scramble begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The rain date is Sunday, July 23.

Cost is $280/team and must be paid by July 14. There is a sign-up sheet in the clubhouse. There will be cash prizes, skins, a 50/50 raffle and a closest to the pin contest. Hot dogs will be provided for golfers on the course.

Northfield Open

The Northfield Golf Course hosted the Northfield Open over the weekend, with Cody Booska coming out the winner after posting a score of 71. 

Jesse Morgan, Dan Korpita and Carter Fasick tied for second (76). In net scoring, Joel Monette took first (65), Tim Holmes came in second (67) while Curt White and Paul Couture tied for third (69).

In the B Division Ike Purington came in first (80) while Geo Cooke and Nate Pecor tied for second (84). Scott Powers (64), Curtis Hunting (66), Jeff Holmes (70) and Brian Peters tied for third (70). 

In the Women’s Division, Deb Putnam shot the low gross (99) and Camilla Thacher shot the low net (76). 

Closest to the pin winners were Scott Colby on No. 6 (11 feet, four inches), Peters on No. 7 (6-6), Monette on No. 15 (15-6) and Dave Johnson on No. 16 (23-0). Longest drive winners were Jeff Jackman and Thacher on No. 9 and Sunny Lucas and Arlinda Letourneau on No. 18. 

Phyllis Canon Invitational

Michelle Morgan and Theresa Collins tied with Susan Plante and Lana O’Connor for the low gross of 68 in the Phyllis Canon Invitational at the Country Club of Greenfield on Sunday. 

Terry Boyce and Katie Vitello took third (69) while Meaghan Sullivan and Ann Pickrell tied with Sue McClellan and Cindy Lajzer for fourth (71). 

In net scoring Susan Cook and Kay Cowperthwait took first (63), Elizabeth Archer and TC Emerson tied with Charlotte Ackerman and Liz Wilson for second (65) while Elizabeth Dolby and Elaine Goodhind tied with Tina Browne and Joanne Warren for fourth (66). 

Greenfield Elks League

Bill Erman and Paul Viens stand first (35), Greg Call and Bob Zaikowski are second (33.5) and Jim Elwell and Pete Quintana sit in third (32) in the Greenfield Elks League at the Country Club of Greenfield.

In closest to the pin last week, Mike Ruggeri won on No. 2 (5-5) and Elwell won on No. 5 (2-2). 

Baseball

Post 81 Junior Legion

Caleb Thomas pitched a complete game and allowed just three hits as the Greenfield Post 81 Junior Legion team to a 5-0 win over Wilbraham on Sunday at Vets Field. 

Malik Moore knocked three hits, Thomas had a pair of hits and an RBI, Ethan Mauthe doubled to bring in a run, Luca Siano singled and drove in two runs while Ben Werner and Arthur Fitzpatrick hit safely in the victory. 

Koufax

Logan Brothers struck out three while Joey Bobala, Logan Brisson and Jack Cusson also pitched for Mohawk in a 13-5 loss to host Amherst on Sunday.
