Leading 32-21 at the half, the Mahar boys basketball team turned things on during the third quarter in its season-opener against Narragansett on Monday. 

The Sens outscored Narragansett 27-2 in the third, taking total command which led to a 67-32 independent road victory. 

"It was good to get this one over with,” Mahar coach Chad Softic said. “We definitely struggled in the first half playing too fast and undisciplined but we responded well in the second half. Lucas [Isrow] and Will [Barnes] were instrumental there in the third quarter settling us down. We are looking forward to hosting Frontier Friday night. It's certainly one of the more dynamic crews we've had in some time."

Barnes did a bit of everything for the Sens, finishing with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists. Isrow scored a team-high 13 points and dished five assists, Morgan Softic tallied 11 points, Marshall Ames scored eight points, pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked four shots, Jayden Delgado tossed in seven points and snatched 13 rebounds while Derek Collins put up eight points in the win. 

Lenox 76, Turners 32 — It was a second half to forget for Turners Falls on Monday against Lenox. 

Trailing 28-15 at the half the Millionaires turned it on over the final 16 minutes, outscoring the Thunder 48-17 to pull away with a 76-32 independent victory in Turners. 

Jackson Cogswell led Turners (0-1) with nine points. Branden Truesdell and Alex Quezada each tossed in six points while Joey Mosca added three points in the loss. 

Wrestling

Frontier’s Jocelyn Antes had herself a day at the St. Paul’s Women’s Wrestling Tournament in Concord, N.H. on Sunday. 

Antes dropped her first match of the day but went on to win her next four matches before earning a third place finish in the 120-pound weight class. Antes picked up wins over Calli Gilchrist (Choate), Grace Kim (Phillips Andover), Ella Fraser (Choate), Danielle Choie (St. Paul’s) and Tasha Boharad (Phillips Andover) to earn the third place finish. 

On Saturday at the Bear Invitational in Athol, Antes picked up a win over Taconic’s Gavin Lynch. Ber Calhoun, Konnor James, Wyatt Finch and Ed Mieczkowski also picked up wins on Saturday for the Redhawks.

Deerfield Academy results

The Deerfield Academy girls hockey team got the weekend going by defeating Milbrook, 3-2, in overtime on Friday. 

On Saturday the DA boys hockey team beat Choate (7-1), the Big Green girls hockey team tied BB&N (3-3), the DA girls basketball team beat St. Paul’s (56-44) and the Big Green boys basketball team defeated Westminster (70-46). 

DA’s boys swim team beat Minnechaug (105-66), as did its girls swim team (103-77). The Big Green boys squash team fell to Andover (4-3). 

Colleges

After recording her first collegiate hat trick, William Smith College’s Kelly Howe was named the New England Hockey Conference’s Player of the Week on Monday. 

Howe, a Deerfield native who attended Deerfield Academy, tallied a trio of goals to lead William Smith past Buffalo State, 4-1, on Saturday. Howe is currently second in the NEHC with eight goals. 

Youth basketball

Suburban League

Mahir Patel knocked down a 3-pointer in the waning seconds to secure the Greenfield 5/6 Suburban League team a 38-33 victory over Hampshire on Saturday. 

Casey Burke scored 14 points while Xaviay Reynolds finished with 11 points and 11 steals for Greenfield. 

■ The Greenfield 7/8 grade Suburban team picked up a pair of wins over the weekend, getting things started with a 43-30 victory over Hampshire on Saturday behind 21 points from Conner Bergeron, 14 points fro m Nick Prasol and four points from Henry Schwerin. 

On Sunday Bo die Burke led the way with 19 points, Anthony Bergstrom added in 12 points, Landen Benz tallied 10 points while Leo McDonald and Ethan St. Clair each had four points as Greenfield beat Palmer, 71-37. Messiah Maysonet played well on defense in the win. 

■ The Turners Falls 5/6 Suburban team knocked off Pioneer, 54-13, on Sunday behind 16 points from JJ Bones and Tyreek Rivera and six points from both Hunter Kelly and Spencer Towne. 

PJ Brodeur led Pioneer with 10 points. 

Youth hockey

FCHA results

The Franklin County Youth Hockey 10U White squad played a pair of games over the weekend, falling to Keene (3-2) on Saturday and losing to Westfield (4-1) on Sunday. 

Harlon Hickey and Grayson Boron scored against Keene, with Shayne Tyler and Brantley Godfrey providing assists. Hickey had the lone goal against Westfield. Natalie Palasciano, Noah Stoffolano and Lyla Burek played well in the lo  sses.
