Bulletin Board: Greenfield field hockey car wash taking place on Aug. 27

Need to get a car wash? The Greenfield field hockey team has you covered. 

The Green Wave are hosting a car wash to raise money for the season on Saturday, Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Sunoco Station on Federal Street. 

Northfield Road Race

Noah deRuiter blazed through the 3.3 mile Northfield Road Race course in a time of 22 minutes, 28 seconds to take first place on Thursday in the 12-runner field. 

Mark Guillaume took second (24:47), Tom Bockus came in third (25:14), Joe Snikeris took fourth (27:54) and Trevor Brice earned fifth (29:17). Mary Buckley (32:53) was the first female finisher, taking eighth overall. 



Richard Simmons knocked in an ace at the Crumpin-Fox Club on Friday. 

Simmons did so from 146 yards out on Hole No. 3. He used a 4 hybrid to sink the shot. 

Ashfield Community

In a “throw out your two worst holes” contest in the Thursday Morning Fun League at the Ashfield Community Golf Club, Lawrence Young and Bob Jillson tied for first on the men’s side with scores of 31. 

On the women’s side, Bev Williams and Cyndie Stetson tied for first with scores of 33. 

Thomas Memorial

Sally Malloy shot the low gross of 41 while Barb Howey carded the low net of 28 in the Thomas Women’s League at Thomas Memorial on Wednesday. 

Deb Cote won closest to the pin on No. 7 (six feet, one inch). 

Northfield Golf Course

Paul Clark and Trevor Blake carded the low gross of 36 in the Timmons-Messer League at the Northfield Golf Course on Wednesday. 

Rick Stempel and Jeff Seymour won a match of cards to finish second with a 38. Ed Underwood and Duff Delano recorded the low net (27), with Lloyd Grover and Sunny Lucas winning a match of cards to take second in net scoring (28). 

Lucas won closest to the pin on No. 6 (11-5) and Paul Clark won on No. 7 (10-11.5). Andy Sena was the match medalist with a 38. 


Sharon Rawson and Jason Grader finished with the top point total in the Greenfield Elks League on Wednesday at the Country Club of Greenfield, coming in with 70.5 points. 

Keith Schempp and Dave McDonald tied with Gary Noga and Randy Bernard for second with 69.5 points. Joe Ruggeri and Mike Ruggeri settled for third with 68.5 points. 

In closest to the pin, Noga won on No. 2 (5-10) and Vinnie Melendez won it on No. 5 (8-7). 

Sawmill River 10K

Registration for the annual Sawmill River 10K is underway. 

The race is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8, beginning at 10 a.m. near the Village Common on Main Street in Montague. The race is a USA Track and Field sanctioned event. 

The race has youth (age 17-and-under), open (18-39), master (40-49), senior (50-59) and senior-plus (60-and-up) divisions. The cost is $30 before Oct. 7 and $35 after. Online registration is available at www.runreg.com/sawmill-river-10k-run. Race day registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the Montague Common Hall.
