Bulletin Board: Post 81 wins opener; Bateman cards ace

David Carey struck out 10 over seven innings, and Greenfield Post 81 kicked off its Senior Division campaign with a victory on Friday night.

Visiting Greenfield rode the right arm of Carey en route to a 5-3 win over Sheffield Post 340 in season-opening action at War Memorial Field.

Carey doubled in the victory, and Tyler Dubreuil had three hits, including a pair of doubles, to go with three RBIs. 

Jake Sak singled twice for Post 81, and Kevin Baumann smacked two doubles and scored two runs. Dylan Martin also had an RBI single in the victory.

Post 81 returns to action Monday with its home opener at Vets Field scheduled against East Springfield Post 420 at 7 p.m.

Youth baseball

Newt Guibault

Jaiden Lapoint went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, lifting No. 2 Booska’s to an 8-2 win over No. 3 Greenfield Savings Bank in semifinal action on Friday.

Tyler Newton went 1-for-3 with a triple and Hunter Stacey went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in the win. Lapointe pitched a gem, striking out 17 on the mound. GSB’ Everett Eichorn had a hit and an RBI while Trevor Lyons added a hit and struck out 13 on the bump.

TFAC 10, Pipione's 0 (semifinals, Friday)

TFAC: Elijah Sullivan-Paulino (3-for-3, home run, double), Evan Wright (3-for-3, double),Chase Greene (2-for-3, home run).

Pipione's: Owen Blanchard (single), Joey Disciullo and Kam Keene combined for 11 strikeouts.

Youth softball

Ayva Quiles-Call and Leah Batiste had four hits apiece to help Emblem Club edge Freedom Credit Union, 7-5, in GGSL Lil Nippers play Friday.

Freedom was led by Harper Kingsbury (two hits) and Maisie Miller (double, single).


Bateman cards ace

Bob Bateman had the shot of a lifetime on Friday. 

Bateman hit his first career ace at the Northfield Golf Club, doing so on Hole No. 6. The shot was from 158 yards out and he used a 6 iron to make it. The shot was witnessed by Ed Gillespie and Kay Gillespie. 


Through seven weeks of the Greenfield Elks League at the Country Club of Greenfield, the pairing of Gary Noga and Randy Bernard are tied with Mike Ruggeri and Joe Ruggeri and Keith Schempp and Dave McDonald for first place with all three pairings sitting at 34 points. 

Jerry Gameri and Dan Hohengasser are in second place (33 points) and Stan Maynard and John Cariddi are in third place (31.5 points).  Gameri won closest to the pin on No. 2 and Bob Wondoloski won it on No. 5. 


Shelburne Falls

Mailyn Wilson rolled the women’s high single of 101 and tied with Tami Garland for the women’s high triple of 275 in the Wednesday Mixed League at the Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley this week. 

John Herron had the men’s high single (120) and Rick Grant had the men’s high triple (310). Karen Herzog tallied the women’s high single (115) and triple (296) while Matt Gilbert had the men’s high single (131) and Kendall Schneider rolled the men’s high triple (346) in the Thursday Spring Mini-League.
