Bulletin Board: Frontier boys soccer blanks Mt. Greylock, 4-0

The Frontier boys soccer team stayed hot on the offensive end Saturday against Mt. Greylock, pulling away for a 4-0 win. 

Matt Sicard found the back of the net four minutes into the game off an assist from Tyler Dubreuil before Devin Niles scored in the 20th minute, the assist going to Chanhee Son. 

Sicard made it 3-0 in the 52nd minute, the assist going to Dubreuil. Dante Ruggiano had the fourth tally off a pass from Aidan Valderrama. 

Dylan Martin came up with five saves in the win for the Redhawks. 

Sabis 10, Athol 0 — Sabis scored five goals in each half to beat the Bears, 10-0, on Saturday in a boys soccer game. 

Holden Girouard had six saves in the loss.

Greenfield hockey golf tournmament

The Greenfield hockey team is hosting its annual golf tournament, set for Sept. 24 at the Country Club of Greenfield. 

The tournament is still looking for teams to participate, and sign ups will run until Sept. 17. For more information, contact Mike Archer at mjaarcher@comcast.net or 413-658-8678. 

Youth football

Franklin County Peewee

Behind a dominant offensive line performance by Xavier Woodard, Julian Bowden-Smith, Connor Bengtson, Cooper Hobbs and Ryan Turners, the Franklin County Peewee Bulldogs beat Palmer, 26-7, on Sunday. 

Jackson Baker and Silas Lively helped the Bulldogs accumulate close to 200 yards of offense. JJ Bones, Jackson Puchalski and Bryce Zraunig each recorded five tackles in the win. 

Frontier Juniors

Riggins Kopcza and Chase Greene each had a rushing and kickoff return touchdown as Frontier’s Junior Division team beat Southbridge, 31-19, on Sunday. 

Kopcza added a touchdown reception from Ty Skroski in the win. Carter Schloat picked off a pass for Frontier. 


Valley Storm

In the opening game of a double-header on Sunday, the Valley Storm 16U fall softball team beat the Junior Swamp Bats, 18-6, in four innings. 

Skyler Steele led the way with three hits, one a double, and an RBI while Anna Bucala smashed two hits and four RBIs. Hannah Gilbert and Bri Lynch both had a pair of hits and Delaney Fifield and Maggie Potter each had a hit and three RBIs in the victory. 

The second leg of the doubleheader wasn’t as kind to Valley Storm, with the Junior Swamp Bats coming away with a 5-4 victory. 

Lilly Ross and Fifield both had a pair of hits in the loss while Pierce, Lynch and Kylee Gamache hit safely. Lynch had seven strikeouts in the circle. 


Western Mass. Fall League

Jason Quinn, TJ Thibeault and Hugh Cyhowski combined for 15 strikeouts and allowed just one hit to lead Greenfield, sponsored by Allstate Corp. and Land Solutions, to an 18-1 win over South Hadley in a Western Mass. Fall Baseball League contest Saturday at Beacon Field.

Michael Pierce crushed two triples and a double to bring in three RBIs in the victory. Cyhowski added three hits and two RBIs, Quinn had a pair of hits and three RBIs and Braeden Tsipenyuk had a pair of hits and RBIs in the win. 

Deven Dubie, Alex Gochinski and Jackson Campbell each tallied a hit and an RBI, Ben Johnson and Thibeault both hit safely, Ian Simpson and Johnny Marchefka had RBIs and Tyler Podolski scored a run for Greenfield. 

The Greenfield JV team dropped both its games over the weekend, falling Westfield, 10-6, and Belchertown, 10-3. Ethan Mauthe, Ben Dodge and Greyson Loos had hits against Westfield and Mauthe hit safely against Belchertown. 


Ashfield Community

The Ashfield Community Golf Club held its 12th annual senior two-person scramble on Saturday, with Dave Cote and Wayne Clark finishing first with a 65. 

Dan Cote and Dave Corliss settled for second with a 69 and Bev Williams and Bob Jillson took third with a 73. 

Dan Cote and Norma LaBelle had the longest drives on No. 4 while Bob Jillson won closest to the pin on No. 5 and Jillson and Francie Hall won on No. 9. 

Dave Cote and Norma LaBelle won the Marshmallow Drive and Bob Ledger and Norma Lynch won Most Honest Score. 

Bucky O’Brien Scotch

In the Bucky O’Brien Scotch Tournament on Sunday at the Country Club of Greenfield, Ed Garbacik and Chris Ferriter finished with the low gross of 64. 

David Kennedy and KC Finley placed second with a 67 while Joe Wilson and Michael Mertes tied with Tim McKenna and Doug Riel for third with both pairings shooting a 69. 

Carter Fasick and Jon Fasick shot the low net of 66. Brodie Conant and Jason Kelton were second (67) and the duos of Jason Yuryan and Tom Bresciano, Josh Harker and Brian Luippold and Mike Archer and Dylan Archer tied for third (69). 

On Saturday, Steve Jones and Jason Kelton tied for first in the Pebble Beach Flight with gross scores of 57 in the Par 3 Championship at the CCG. 

Patrick Varner (58) took first in the Shinnecock Flight, Jamie Covey (57) won the Oakmont Flight and Denis Depault and Ike Purington tied for first in the Torrey Pines Flight with scores of 61. 

Brady Booska (58) won the East Lake Flight, Martin Carter (66) took the Pine Valley Flight, Gary Noga (65) was first in the Harbour Town Flight, Terry Boyce (57) came out on top in the Riviera Flight, Ann McHugh (60) earned first in the Colonial Flight and Irene Woods (68) was the winner in the Muirfield Flight. 

On Friday, the foursome of Aaron Campbell, Johnny Marchefka, Eric Adams and Clint McCloud fired off the low gross of 55 in the men’s flight in the Elks Outing at the CCG. 

James Bozek, Alec Meikle, Derek Hoy and Jeff Taylor took second with a 59. Gary Noga, Randy Bernard, George Platek and Larry Synard tied with Jim Elwell, Wayne Borkowski and KC Finley for the low net of 54. 

In the Mixed Flight, Sharon Rawson, Roy Emerson, Michael Blanchard and Tony Wonseski carded the low gross of 62 while Stephan Smith, Jane Smith, Sara Smith and Phyllis Videtich had the low net of 58. 

Closest to the pin winners were Randy Shannon on No. 2 (seven feet, three inches), Tim Herzig on No. 11 (seven feet, eight inches) and George Platek on No. 15 (four feet, five inches). 

Greenfield Tennis Association 

The Greenfield Tennis Association is hosting a season-ending doubles tournament.

The tournament is open to all and those interested should contact league commissioner Andrew Varnon by email at avarnon@yahoo.com or by phone at 413-774-563.  Players enter as an individual and there is a draw for partners on the first day of matches. Matches start 5:30 p.m. on Monday and continue through Thursday as needed.
