Bulletin Board: Chaffee’s hat trick leads UMass over Vermont

Mitchell Chaffee and the University of Massachusetts hockey team came to play against Vermont on Friday. 

Chaffee finished with a hat trick while Matt Murray stopped 25 shots in goal to lead to a 4-0 victory over the Catamounts. 

The Minutemen (15-7-1) struck first with 1:36 left in the first period as Chaffee lit up the scoreboard with the assists going to Philip Lagonuv and Oliver Chau. 

Chaffee’s second goal came just over six minutes into the second period off assists from Jack Suter and Chau. 

John Leonard put UMass up three 6:40 into the third period off a dish from Mark Del Gaizo before Chaffee tallied his third goal with three seconds remaining on the clock.

The Minutemen and Vermont square off again tonight in Burlington. 


Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley

Ray Dodge starred in the Thursday Night League at the Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley this week, rolling a men’s high single score of 143 and men’s high triple score of 353. 

Kim Stevens finished with the women’s high single score of 114 while Colleen Barrows had the women’s high triple score of 311. 

Nick Gray and Lucas Gray rolled the high single score of 108 in the Sunday Scotch Doubles tournament, with Kendall Schneider and Tony Hanna rolling the high triple score of 291. 

In the Monday Night League, Tyler Griswold had the men’s high single of 123 and John Herron finished with the men’s high triple score of 325. 

On the women’s side, Mindy Garland rolled the high single score of 124 and Jill Jablonski’s score of 320 was the high triple. 

Ken Shearer had the high single (126) and triple (352) scores in the Tuesday Men’s League. 

Marilyn Wilson rolled the women’s high single (118) and triple (308) scores in the Wednesday Night League while Chris Rice finished with the men’s high single (132) and triple (329) scores. 


ARMS results

The Athol-Royalston boys middle school basketball team picked up 49-35 win over Pioneer Valley Regional on Thursday in Northfield. 

The Red Raiders led 24-15 at halftime. 

Colby Goodwin poured in a game-high 19 for Athol, with Ben Kearney and Ethan Bacigalupo each chipping in with eight points. 

Logan Cormier (six points)  Angel Castillo (four points) contributed offensively for Athol. 

■ The Athol girls middle school team clipped Pioneer, 24-23, in Northfield on Thursday.
