Bulletin Board: Moore strong for Mahar JV girls in loss

The Mahar Regional girls junior varsity basketball team fell to Belchertown on the road, 27-21, Thursday. 

Sienna Moore cleaned up with a double-double, registering 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Natalie Apteker scored four points and added seven rebounds.  Sophia Woods led the defensive effort with six steals. 

Middle school 

The Mahar boys basketball team dropped a 32-31 decision to Frontier Regional on Thursday in Orange. 

Owen Carl scored 11 points for the Senators, with Lucas Isrow adding another seven.

■Jenna Bonenfant scored 12 points, helping Athol Middle School defeat Mohawk, 42-6, in girls basketball action on Friday.

Abby Lutz scored six points, while Anna Duquette, Lizzy Mailloux, Lilly Rathburn, Hannah Seamons, Makaylee Barilone tossed in four points apiece.

Junior varsity 

The Athol High School boys junior varsity basketball team defeated Mohawk Trail, 55-16, in Buckland on Friday night.  

Jack Bonenfant led the Red Raiders with 10 points. 

Jet Castillo (nine points), Mark Gauthier (eight points) and Connor Mahony  all chipped in offensively for the Red Raiders.

On Sunday, Hunter and Joni Sessions swept Scotch Doubles action with a 113 (high single) and a 293 (high triple).

In Monday’s action Eric Wasileski (109) and Tami Garland (111) took down high single competition.

Wasileski rolled a 307 in high triple, while Marilyn Wilson also topped high triple competition with a 307. 

Other results include from Tuesday: Bob Jillson (130, high single), Stu Kingsley (350).

Wednesday results: Chris Rice (128. high single), Robin Clark (110); Chris Rice (335, high triple); Robin Clark (306).

Thursday results: Matt Gilbert (140, high single), Colleen Barrows (111); Matt Gilbert (363, high triple), Colleen Barrows (286).

Running

Sleigh Bell Run

As part of the 2020 Greenfield Winter Carnival, the Greenfield Recreation Department will host the Sleigh Bell Run at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 1st.  The  four-mile run will start on Hope Street and run through the Highland Park area. 

Pre-register on RunReg or on race day at Hope & Olive Restaurant from 8:45-9:30 a.m. Pre-race entry is $25 if registered by Friday, January 17 and $30 after that date and on race day. Youth under age 18 are half price. 

Volunteers are still needed for the event. Volunteers and the first 50 runners will receive a free 2020 Winter Carnival T-shirt. There will also be free refreshments following the race.
