BERNARDSTON — Three articles at Bernardston’s Annual Town Meeting on Wednesday were voted on after the Recorder’s press time.

The first, to change Bernardston’s Fire Department to a “strong chief” system, passed. Fire Chief Peter Shedd supported the change, saying that the current system of decision-making by a 12-member board was often inefficient. Shedd’s plan under the “strong chief” system, he said, is to instead delegate specific kinds of work to multiple smaller groups.

The other two articles were amendments to Bernardston’s zoning bylaw, which Planning Board Chairwoman Chris Wysk described as updates to keep the bylaw current. The new language in the bylaw, she said, does not specifically address any existing or potential development projects, but is intended to be proactive with regards to any development that may happen in the future. Both amendments passed.
