NORTHFIELD — After delays caused by storm damage and vandalism, the Northfield Drive-In opened for the season last weekend.

According to an email from owners Steve and Julia Wiggin, the theater, which traditionally opens around Memorial Day weekend, was able to open after repairs to the movie screen were finished. The screen sustained damage during a storm. The email also stated the drive-in was vandalized, but the Wiggins said this is not an ongoing issue.

“We wanted to assess what needed to be worked on and how long it would take to fix before we announced any opening dates in order to provide a safe and functioning environment for our wonderful movie-goers,” the Wiggins posted on the Northfield Drive-In’s Facebook page.

“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” (PG-13) was screened as a single feature during the opening weekend, and will also be played on July 14 and 15, with the addition of “Elemental” (PG). According to the Northfield Drive-In’s Facebook page, gates and concessions open at 6:20 p.m. The first movie will begin at dusk.

Admission is $13 for adults and $7 for children ages 6 to 14. Children under 6 are admitted for free.

The drive-in also posted an updated Snack Shack menu, which can be viewed on the Facebook page.

The Wiggins took over the Northfield Drive-In, a 15-acre property that spans the Massachusetts-New Hampshire state line, in April 2020 from longtime owner Mitchell Shakour. The Shakours purchased the drive-in, which is one of the oldest in the country, from the original owner, Carl Nillman, in the late 1960s. Nillman opened the theater in 1948.
