Orloski wins close Whately Selectboard race against write-in Christie

WHATELY — An uncontested election was made interesting Tuesday when a write-in candidate for a seat on the Selectboard came within four votes of the winning incumbent.

Frederick Orloski was reelected with 32 votes, but write-in candidate Margaret Christie came in as a close second with 28.

According to Town Clerk Lynn M. Sibley, 76 of the 1166 registered voters came out to the polls Tuesday, resulting in a 6.5 percent turnout.

Other write-in candidates for the Selectboard were Edward Ashman and Rebecca Jones, who each received one vote.

Robert Halla kept his seat on the School Committee with 66 votes, and Orloski also won the race for town assessor.

Library trustees: Lawrence Ashman (69) and James Ross (67)

Cemetery commissioner: Darcy Tozier (73)

Board of Health: Francis Fortino (71)

Water commissioner: Paul Fleuriel Jr. (71)

Elector under Oliver Smith Will: Adelia Bardwell (69)

Frontier Regional School district Committee: William Smith (74)
