Frontier boys’ team clinches share of crown

Frontier Regional School placed six runners in the overall top 10 and clinched at least a share of the PVIAC Northern Division with a sweep of Franklin County Technical School (20-40) and Greenfield High School (20-42) in boys’ cross country action Tuesday at Highland Park in Greenfield.

Franklin Tech earned a split with a 22-33 win over Greenfield.

The Green Wave’s Will Borcy cruised to an easy win in the individual race, covering the 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 21 seconds. Franklin Tech’s Aaron Moore placed second in 19:21.

Frontier took six of the seven spots, led by Colin Lacey’s third-place finish in 19:29.

Orlando Wildman-Hanlon followed in fourth place (19:30), Tre Roy came in fifth (20:02), Aiden Waldron was sixth (20:11) and Brandyn Robinson took seventh (20:21).

Jarod Brown of the Eagles wound up eighth in 20:39, Garstein Carey of the Red Hawks was ninth (20:47) and Nick Waterman of Franklin Tech completed the top 10 (21:01).

• Frontier earned forfeit wins over both Greenfield and Franklin Tech in the girls’ race.

The Red Hawks’ Caitlin Burnett won the race in 22:11, followed by Franklin Tech’s Clarissa Hutchinson in 22:46 and the Green Wave’s Jenna Silk in 23:04. Frontier’s Mairead Ferry (23:27) and Savannah Emery (23:55) completed the top five.

St. Mary 21, Pioneer 34

Granby 18, Pioneer 43

St Mary 27, Granby 29 — Pioneer Valley Regional School placed only two runners in the top 10 as it was swept by St. Mary High School (21-34) and Granby High School (18-43) in a PVIAC North tri-meet on Tuesday at Dufresne Park in Granby.

Seamus Garland was the Panthers’ top finisher, as he came in sixth in 21:33, while teammate Ben Potee-Martin placed 10th (22:40).

St. Mary’s Billy Carroll won the 3.1-mile race 19:39.

Mohawk 26, McCann 31 — Zach Coburn won his first career race to lead Mohawk Trail Regional High School to a 26-31 win over McCann Technical School in a PVIAC North Division boys’ cross country meet Tuesday in Buckland.

Coburn crossed the line in 16:07 to win the 2.55-mile race. Teammate Josh Rode finished close behind in 16:12 to take second, while Luke Viens came in fifth (17:03) and Tom Damery took sixth (17:08).

Catholic 27, Mahar 32 — Zabien Shaw rolled to another individual win but Mahar Regional School fell to Holyoke Catholic High School, 27-32, in an independent boys’ cross country meet on Tuesday in Whiting Reservoir in Holyoke.

Shaw cruised to a final time of 15:05 in the 2.72-mile race. Pat Richard finished third in 16:22, and Dan Bergman came in fifth (17:10).

Girls’ meets

Pioneer 21, Granby 36 — Natalie Hale led six top-10 finishers for Pioneer as it downed Granby, 21-36, in a North girls’ cross country meet Tuesday at Dufresne Park in Granby.

Hale won the 3.1-mile race in 22:19, while Audrey Corrigan took third in 23:35, Sarah Kaczenski finished fourth in 25:04 and Amelia Smiaroski came in 25:19.

Mary White placed eighth (25:55) and Lena Carr was ninth (26:02) for the Panthers’ other top-10 finishers.

Mohawk 15, McCann 44 — Abbi Yezierski posted a winning time of 18:35 on the 2.55-mile course to help Mohawk beat McCann Tech, 15-44, in a PVIAC North girls’ cross country meet Tuesday in Buckland.

Maddie Boucias finished second (18:41), Natasha Olanyk was fourth (18:45), Amy Funk took fourth and (20:57) and Holly Glier completed the overall top five (21:52) for the Warriors. Hannah Kelleher placed seventh (23:31).
