Chicopee bounces back, beats Manny’s, 7-5

Connor Sheridan roped a bases-loaded triple in the top of the sixth inning to lead Chicopee Falls Tigers to a 7-5 win over Manny’s TV & Appliance in a Tri-County League men’s amateur baseball game Friday night at Veterans Memorial Field in Greenfield.

Manny’s fought its way out of a 4-0 hole with five runs in the fifth inning but the one-run lead quickly evaporated when Chicopee (7-7) scored three times in the sixth on the Sheridan three-bagger.

Jeff Dixon suffered the loss, striking out six and walking one in seven innings. While Dixon was responsible for the three runs in the sixth inning, the four runs in the fourth were the result of four errors by the Manny’s defense.

Dixon got the first out of the inning but had back-to-back runners reach on a pair of errors. After a walk loaded the bases, another error by the infield continued to make things worse. Jeremy Hartbarger (three hits) added a two-run single later in the inning for the Tigers.

“He should have been out of the fourth inning without giving up any runs,” Manny’s coach Lee Magee said. “Those were two ground ball outs and it should have been a 1-2-3 inning. Instead, they have runners on first and second.”

Manny’s stormed back in the fifth, as Greg Vouros hit a two-run single, while Dave Talbot (three hits) and Dusty Mones (two hits) each had an RBI single. That lead would not hold up and Manny’s dropped its second straight game.

Tim Bailey earned the win, striking out two and walking one in seven innings.

Manny’s (6-8) travels to East Longmeadow tonight at 5:45 to take on Ash-Dee before hosting DiFranco Realty Sunday at 5 at Vets Field.
