Larson, Teddies sharp, 1-0
Joey Larson gave Teddy Bear Pools its second consecutive strong pitching effort by tossing a two-hitter to lead the Bears to a 1-0 Tri-County League baseball victory over Wilbraham Funeral Home Friday night at Valiton Field in South Deerfield.
Larson allowed one hit in the second inning and one hit in the third in helping Teddy Bear (4-7) to its second straight win. The performance comes after Andrew Sadowski tossed a two-hitter Tuesday night to help Teddy Bear defeat Manny’s TV & Appliance, 6-1. Larson allowed just two fly balls and finished with four strikeouts and no walks.
“He kept them off-balance all night,” Teddy Bear skipper Bill Buck said. “They only hit two balls out of the infield. Everything was on the ground.”
Teddy Bear gave Larson all the help he needed in the bottom of the first inning with the only run of the game. Brad Bean hit a one-out infield single and on the play went to second when the throw to first was not only late but also errant, finding its way out of play. Zach Bartak moved Bean to third with a ground-out to second, and Nick Marscher plated the run with a single.
Larson took over from there, allowing a second-inning single to Greg Heilman (who was erased on a double play) and a single in the third by Brett Bhol. Teddy Bear did make four errors behind Larson, but he pitched around them.
Bean finished with two hits, including a double, in the win, while Casey Blanchard, Corey Shearer and Sadowski each added one.
Jason Erhert struck out four and walked one in a six-hitter for Wilbraham.
Teddy Bear travels to East Longmeadow High School Sunday at noon to take on DiFranco.
