Letter: Thanks, Dakin
I just want to say a big “Thank You” to the Dakin Animal Shelter in Leverett for all that they do for the many cats and dogs that are there.
I was impressed with the place and I felt I had to get the word out to the many animal lovers on thinking of adopting a pet. I recently was given a small pet that was found near Interstate 91 in Greenfield but I was unable to keep him. I knew this animal needed to be spayed and probably did not have any of his shots so I made a call to Dakin in Leverett asking them if they were able to take him in.
Within one hour I received a call back from someone at the center and they said “yes,” they would take him that day. All I can say is the old saying you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression is so true!
This place was unbelievable! As I got out of the car, I noticed several vehicles in the parking lot with many visitors on the grounds and inside the building. The building was beautiful inside, clean, with lots of windows and nice and cool.
I first noticed one of the volunteers with two young girls around 9 years as one of the animals was being combed. I then noticed a family and their daughter just purchasing a small puppy. I made my way around to check out all the animals and just looking into the large rooms you could see clean blankets, kitty beds and plenty of food and water out for all the animals. All these animals have been spayed or neutered and given all their shots and are ready to go!
What a great place ... we are so very lucky to have them in this area!
So the next time you are thinking of a pet, think DAKIN ANIMAL SHELTER. In ending this letter, a big “Thank You” to all the people who volunteer there you are doing a fantastic job!
