Letter: Man behind the kennel
I think its great that the Sheriff’s Department inmates have refurbished the old dog kennel in Montague and they seem to be making great efforts in the operation of it, but there is someone who deserves a lot of credit that has been forgotten.
I would guess very few people know who Calin Giurgiu is. He works for the Greenfield Police Department in the maintenance/janitorial capacity and does a great job. In addition he has also, for the last few years, been responsible for operating the dog kennel in Montague. With very little budget, if any, and little, if any, compensation for himself he has been picking up stray dogs, housing them, making sure they were taken care of with little or no recognition. He made sure dogs were updated on shots and would work with owners to get them to the vets office if it was needed. I know from personal experience Calin was always available by phone for any dog-related questions, always available to re-unite an owner with a lost dog and did lots of work to adopt out strays that may have otherwise ended up in the animal shelter.
Calin is a wonderful person and is always willing to help someone in need. He deserves a lot of credit for all of his hard work with the Kennel!
