Letter: We need Susannah
I have been involved in local politics for over 30 years. I have served on numerous volunteer committees, and have served as an elected precinct representative, selectman and School Committee member. I have even run for the same state-level office in 2010 for the 2nd Franklin District. I know and understand the lay of the land when it comes to what is needed in this district to have a voice on Beacon Hill.
After being a long-time member of the Democratic Party, I am personally glad that I have stepped away from party politics and have taken it upon myself to become better educated on both sides of the aisle. Beacon Hill is broken and we need to elect people, not parties, to fix it.
Recently, very disturbing voting has taken place on Beacon Hill. Our elected rep and others seeking office opposed increases to local aid and education funding. Boldly, our rep stated that she would not (and did not) read the budget because of having “full faith in the process,” time and time again joining colleagues to vote the party line rather than what constituents in this district want or need.
Having “full faith in the process” that is a broken process is detrimental to the district.
I have researched and reviewed all the candidates involved in the upcoming primary and general election. The 2nd Franklin District needs to elect a proven leader and that leader is Susannah Whipps-Lee of Athol. She is a proven leader, job creator and person who can lead our district into the future. Our great region needs a stronger voice and a voice that will listen to those whoelect them.
Susannah has the ability to work with both sides of the aisle and has the desire to serve to get the job done. Don’t be fooled by the charade of election year “presents” from Beacon Hill. We cannot afford to continue to the “left” with the incumbent, nor can we afford to move to the far “right” with Mrs. Anderson. Our district is made up of proud people who come from all walks of life, ethnic background, diversity etc. All people deserve respect and constituent services.
Please support Susannah Whipps-Lee of Athol on Sept. 9 to move Susannah onto the general election in November.
