Historical Society hosting ‘French Flintlock Musket: A Game-Changer in the Struggle for Independence’

CONWAY — The Conway Historical Society is presenting its May program on Tuesday, May 14, at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to learn about the role of French firearms during the battle for American independence. The event will be held at the Historical Society Museum, 50 Main St.

Richard Colton, former president of the Montague Historical Society, will discuss the use of French firearms from 1777 to 1782 and the role those weapons played during the Revolutionary War. The Conway Historical Society has a French Army flintlock musket in its collection.

The discussion is free and open the public. Refreshments will be served.

Blackout poetry and art workshop set for May 15

SHUTESBURY — A blackout poetry and art workshop will be held at the Shutesbury Town Hall on Wednesday, May 15, at 6:30 p.m.

Folks are invited to join Jeannette Stockton as they take on blackout poetry and art, the act of highlighting words and blacking out others to create poetry and art in books with the leftover text. Registration is required by emailing library.director@shutesbury.org.

Mount Toby Concerts hosting Antje Duvekot on May 18

LEVERETT — The Mount Toby Concert series continues, featuring Boston-based singer-songwriter Antje Duvekot, on Saturday, May 18, at 7 p.m. at 194 Long Plain Road.

A Heidelberg, Germany, native, Dukevot weaves together personal, social and political themes into her music.

“I see my songs as therapy for me, and if saying these things can make me feel better, then maybe other people who can relate to what I’m saying will feel better, too,” Dukevot said. “A lot of my songs are about me and the things I’m going through in my life, although I can be inspired by what’s happening in the news, too.”
