Car swerves from bike, strikes utility pole in Whately
WHATELY — A car struck a utility pole on River Road Thursday afternoon after swerving to avoid hitting a cyclist.
Whately Police Chief James Sevigne said the driver, a 28-year-old Charlemont woman, was forced to swerve away when the cyclist turned in front of her vehicle near the Hatfield town line.
The car struck the utility pole, breaking it, and the driver was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Sevigne said repairs to the pole are underway.
He said names of those involved were not being released because charges, if any, had not been determined.
