No injuries in Shelburne barn blaze

SHELBURNE — Fire claimed a barn but no lives, human or animal, over the weekend.

Shelburne Center Fire Chief John Taylor said the call came in five minutes before 11 p.m. Saturday night, from residents in the Skinner Road area, well removed from the fire, who reported a glow in the sky.

The barn on Little Mohawk Road by the Patten Road junction was a total loss, Taylor said, but a nearby house was spared and no one was hurt.

Taylor said the barn was older and presently disused, although it did contain some equipment and items of value.

Mutual aid from the Shelburne Falls Fire District, Greenfield, Buckland and Colrain helped fight the fire, which Taylor said had no obvious cause and remains under investigation.
