Northfield Kiwanis clambake Saturday
NORTHFIELD — The local Kiwanis Club will celebrate the end of summer with an old-fashioned New England clambake Saturday.
The festivities start at 1 p.m. at Kiwanis Park on School Street, with piping hot lobsters, clams, and a slew of sides served at 3 p.m. Those who don’t like seafood can enjoy a chicken barbecue.
Clambake master and Northfield resident Ray Zukowski will take care of the cooking, and Phil Watson and Friends will provide live music.
The menu consists of one lobster per person, soft-shell clams, corn on the cob, clam chowder, potatoes and cole slaw, followed by dessert. There will also be a cash bar. There will also be raffle and door prizes.
Proceeds from the annual event will go toward park repairs and improvements. In recent years, the club has added a playground for public use, as well as a performance stage and storage shed.
Now, the shed and stage need new roofs, and the stage needs electrical work.
When it’s not rented for functions, the park is open for daytime use by area families.
Kiwanis Park is available for rent through October. Northfield residents can get the park for a day for $100, and it’s $150 for out-of-town groups. Rentals come with use of the kitchen, the pavilion with seating for 60, and plenty of space for field games and activities.
Tickets for Saturday’s clambake are $40 and are available at Mim’s Market, the Northfield Golf Club Clubhouse, at the park, and through members. You can also order them from club treasurer Steve Stoia at 413-498-5921.
