Armed man steals cash at city D’Angelo
NORTHAMPTON — Police were searching Tuesday night for an armed suspect who robbed the D’Angelo sandwich shop at 388 King St. at around 9:30 p.m.
Police said they took a report of a man who entered the shop at the corner of King Street and Bridge Road brandishing a knife. The suspect fled the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash from its register, Lt. Alan C. Borowski said. A description of the suspect was not immediately available Tuesday night.
Northampton police and detectives were on the scene shortly after the robbery occurred, taking photographs of the crime scene and interviewing employees inside the sandwich shop.
Massachusetts State Police K9 troopers also were called in to assist with the search, according to Borowski.
The reported robbery comes one week after the Phillips 66 gas station on Russell Street in Hadley was robbed by a man carrying a wooden stick or club.
